After I killed all those monsters (and got nailed by the "Phobia of Undead" penalty from the Stress and Fear mod due to getting defeated by one of those monsters so many times), I got stuck trying to find a key and caved in and checked YouTube to get a hint where the key is.

To my surprise, the YouTuber didn't fight those monsters. He ran away from them!!! Duh, I thought I had to kill them, haha.

I imagine the stress & fear mod goes well with vigilant 🙂

Spoiler

I am physically unable to let them live (and roam around) - their noises drive me nuts lol.

I noticed that several of the monsters in the mansion have more than 8000 hit points. Until then I was thinking of maybe increasing the difficulty a notch, but without surprise attack it takes so many attacks to kill those monsters my finger got tired of pressing the mouse button *Laughs* With surprise and dual wield they die in 1 or 2 hits, but without surprise and using two handed weapon they take around 100+ hits, haha.

Pretty sure the horror theme combined with blurry vision and stupidly high damage aura they have along very predictable patrol route with hiding spot was enough hints it was a stealth section

Oh? That's interesting you think so. I've never before encountered a monster in Skyrim I was supposed to flee. I'm rather surprised you thought you should when you encountered it.

As for the blurriness, the mod already was introducing annoying visual effects including forcing first person on me several times, so I had no reason to think it was a hint to not fight it.

Also, I'd gotten the Phobia of Undead debuff from Stress and Fear mod a bit before, and as that's the first time I got that debuff, I thought the visual effect in question was from Stress and Fear and not from Vigilant until I saw the video walkthrough of Vigilant where I noticed the other player had that visual effect as well.

Finally, I didn't know Vigilant was a Horror Theme mod. I thought it was a story mod with detective exploration. And there had already been nearly a dozen cases where I had to kill the boss monsters of sections to progress to the next section. There was no reason to believe that model would suddenly change.

I think it is all of that 🙂  For me, its a deep-lore story/adventure mod with horror mixed in. Act 4 is where the meat and potatoes of the mod are ^^.
You can approach situations as you see fit (and your character build allows). I play on legendary and therefore have high-tempered weapons (no cheat, no loop), otherwise some enemies are just stupid damage-sponges. In Vigilant you have the option (MCM), to let your enemies deal more damage (bosses only I believe), which is nice.

That's inspirational, thanks. When I started my character I was on legendary, but I simply couldn't kill boss draugr without dying 20+ times, so I toned it down to level 3 difficulty. However, at 88th level with several legendary skills now I'm much stronger. I'll switch back to Legendary now and log into skyrim to continue Vigilant. Thanks 🙂

p.s. Though I don't wear armor, and that still might be a problem *laughs* But I'll try.

Just an FYI, you were right. The glass cannon build is fine in Vigilante with Legendary difficulty. It seems it was just those monsters they didn't intend for us to fight which were the problem, but normal boss monsters are fine.

My first time in Vigilant I was a sorc, fighting in a nightgown with gimped spells (have not had any magic overhauls yet). There is one encounter where you get swarmed like crazy (you will know, when you get there ^^) - that got a bit rough 😄  (more like glass no-cannon)

Sorcerer is an interesting path, possibly modelled after AD&D. You're right that at lower levels there's nothing weaker in Skyrim. But at higher levels, there's nothing stronger. You get the ability to two-fist blast area attacks that wipe out anything at range (even groups) at about the speed dual wield one-handed gets close up. My character has been 100 destruction for weeks and stopped using it because it's simply too powerful, especially if you carry a few pieces of gear with magicka regeneration speed. When one-handed hits 100 (it's around 93 right now) I may level up two-handed (56ish) to 100 then switch back to destruction. Archery is in the 90s and still decent for range assassinations, but with decent illusion skill (which my character has), destruction spells make no noise. So again, it's kind of the most powerful skill in the game (in my humble opinion), except maybe for stealth.

I mean, stealth archer (stealth/archery skills synergy) is ridiculously strong and boring with vanilla AI (but it can be helped a bit with mods). Regarding sorcery - I used 3 spells back then and I guess it just wasn´t for me. ^^
I the meantime I overhauled the system completely, but havent´tried it out properly (yet). In my current playthrough I am lvl 66 and I plan on leveling magic skills when I have more time to play again.(still tons to do in that game)
