Please help a beginner in making nifskope textures visible for custom meshes

Recommended Posts

I followed this video to set up the nifskope resource data. However, only vanilla meshes with proper textures appear in it. The custom textures that are being displayed properly in both the creation kit and Fallout 4 are not showing up inside nifskope. Instead, the mesh appears complete purple/white. How should i fix this ? Also, are there any better alternates for correctly placing my custom textures over a custom mesh ?

To make Nifskope display textures, you need to specify their location under Settings -> Resources. There are two tabs there: Archives and Folders. Under Archives you can add any BSAa located anywhere on your computer, and under Folders you can similarly specify folders. This should be the top level folder for textures, such as for example Data\Textures.

Are there some further settings to tweak here ?

But my custom mesh textures are still not showing in nifskope -

Looking at your last screenshot, I notice that texture paths to some of the textures do not include the initial "textures\" folder but start immediately with "myprops\". I don't know if it is right or wrong, but I notice that another texture in the same list does start with "textures\". May be something about that?

I do not mod Fallout myself, but I use Nifskope for Oblivion models. I see there are some differences, so I can't help you with your model specifically. As for the settings of Nifskope, that's indeed the only place that I know of.

Just an observation, but the top two screenshots are from Dev 10 and the bottom one is Dev 7. Are you using both versions?

The issue has been fully solved now.

You're welcome but could you please share how it was solved. I'm a little unclear about how to set resources in my Nifskope Dev 7. I get the ones that are in BSAs. Those show up but when I try for anything else (like in my modding folder), Nifskope doesn't find them. And I'm setting the resource at the top level Texture folder within my modding folder. So, I'm curious what you came up with.

In my case, i deleted all the different versions of nifskope glitching my file paths, restarted my computer, and then reinstalled the latest version of nifskope and set the appropriate file paths to it. Now i have only the latest version of nifskope installed. Like seriously, compared to actual mod making, setting just the basic resources for mod making is far more troublesome. But finally......

Ah, I see. So, you were using more than one version. Good that you got it sorted then. However, it's not relevant to my issue. I only use one version.

Cheers
