skyrim AE cant get High poly head presets to work

Recommended Posts

Something I learned late in the game (actually just missed in the instructions)

First, make sure you set the proper race, as most presets are race specific.

after you've applied the preset, go to the HEAD tab

find and change the "Face part"  value from its default to chose the highpoly head.

That's so helpful. Thanks for mentioning that, anjenthedog. In the past when trying to apply the high poly head on a character I've had to "set race" to the appropriate race. For instance, if i was low-poly nord and wanted to apply high poly nord to an existing character, it wouldn't work until I did the set-race even if it's to the same race (such as Nord on Nord character) which resets most of the skills. You're going to save me resetting the skills going forward. Thanks 🙂

np @Karna5 Also don't  forget to do anything in the sculpt menu that a given highpoly head preset directs you to do (sometimes they tell you you need to load something from that menu). Not sure it's necessary but just in case... (also shows whether you have all the necessary bits it expects to be able to apply, like HPH brows)

PS> Heh... just learned about head > face part myself a month or two ago, even though I've had HPH installed for idk 2 maybe 3 years. "pay forward" and all that 😉

I've been thinking some more on what you described, anjenthedog, and I think I understand what's been happening. For instance, if my character is already high-polygon head and tries on a new hi-poly preset, her face deforms horribly until I reset her race in Racemenu to the same race she is. But thinking about it, she's probably not actually the race. My character is nearly always a vampire.

So, for instance, if she's a vampre nord, her race is technically nordracevampire rather than nord. And I think nordracevampire has a non-default face part which is the problem.

I suppose I could have set race to nord by console command, done the racemenu, and then set the race back to nordracevampire. But your solution does it without all those extra steps simply by cancelling the vampire face part manually.

Thanks again 🙂

The Head > Face Part should solve that, at least in part.

I see vampire, diseased, and human forms available when I scroll through those selections.

Keep an eye on the bottom right of the game window to see the current face type as you nudge the head > face part selection forward. Display is like that of hair, (shows for all of about a second or two) so you'll need to be quick to read them.

I noticed that by accident around 1000 hours into playing Skyrim *Laughs* But I can't read it. I'm legally blind, and it flashes too fast for me to try to interpret the shapes. But it's okay. Your information already solved the mystery and offered solutions. Thanks again 🙂

Hmmm well that sucks. Sorry about your eyes. My late dad suffered from severe Mac D and was effectively "as blind as a bat" for the last ~decade or so of his life (thankfully I haven't shown any symptoms but do have other eye issues - near and far and severe astigmatism - from a couple of assaults, one a head blow, the other a strangulation)

Anyway...

On my installation, they show (for a nord character) as

0  vanilla (Female) (I guess, name is never displayed)

1  Female head nord

2 Female head vampire

3 Female head vampire HPH

4 Female head nord HPH

Note: the names I'm providing above aren't verbatim. they're condensed/abbreviated to show the important distinctions

hope it helps
