Friendly Fire Problems (Solved)

I find that my character spends almost more time in jail from friendly fire than she does exploring. When she's in a town, and a dragon attacks, her area spells usually kill 2 or 3 guards at the same time they attack the dragon. In fact, it's literally impossible for me to use any spells without hitting friendly NPCs.

For instance, she went to Winterhold College today, and the mage at the entrance told her to hit a glyph in front of her with a fireball. But when she did, the area effect of the fireball hit the NPC as well.

Later I wandered into a tower with a friendly witch who wanted me to help her stop her mom from sacrificing people, and there were many hags and witches along the path, but whether I used dual wield attacks with sword/dagger or magic spells, it kept killing the person I was trying to help and failing the quest.

How do people cope with using spells or dual wield attacks around friendly NPCs without hitting the friendly NPCs?

The only thing that seems to work for me is to let all the NPCs hit zero health first, putting them into defeated mode (Acheron death alternative) so that I can freely attack without hitting the NPCs. But surely this isn't what the millionish Skyrim players do if they want to use spells or melee flourishes?

Post Script: Never mind. I'm going to give this mod a shot to see if it helps.

Post Post Script: Preliminary tests show the above mod does work. For instance, there's a quest where I need to cleanse some stones with civilians around them. Without that mod, my attacks kill all the civilians in addition to the monster I need to fight. With this mod, the civilians did not die.

You might also try "Simple Offense Suppression" and "Simple Offense Suppression MCM-Block Friendly Fire"

*Nods* That's exactly the mod I linked and tested 🙂
