lubusbtch
I am unable to patch FO3. When I try to patch after it gets to 100% the game launches and nothing happens. If I minimize, the patch screen is still up but not responding and there is a blank command prompt up too. I have a legitimate store bought copy of FO3. Right now my game is version 1.1.0.35. I am trying to go directly to 1.6. Do I need to install them in order? I'm about out of ideas. I've tried downloading the patches from different websites too to include from the bethesda site directly.
mechine
ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU lolz yeah man install the patches one by one over an over naws I'm kidding they are like the bethesda patch Bethesda took all the patches an put them into one patch which is why you only get one patch from bethesda which is the current kind of cool By those rules you just install then pick which patch you want and install that one, not all the patches in order up to that one so if you wana run 1.5 just download an run 1.5 not 1.0.15 1.0.35 1.4 then 1.5 last I'm not really sure about the patcher launching FO3 I think it does that because of games for windows live In which case you can use Games for windows live to patch the game or disable an otherwise ignore games for windows live as it causes problems besides this one What you can do is patch it, when it launches the game an does whatever it's doing just cancel that crap, then go to your hard drive an find the Fallout3.exe right click it select propertys then the version tab to see which version you have, which should be the patched version you raneven though it didnt' finish, technically There are many ways to disable games for windows live, the only one I really know about is from using FOSE and is just a bonus on top of the many uses for FOSE, I do believe there is a stand alone version that's purpose is to just disable games for windows live an remove microsofts finger from the "pie" Since you've planned on 1.6, and since I heard someone say that they were running 1.6 plus FO3 master update and it ran great. I'd learn about doing that as well. You might wana create a restore point with the windows tools after you install fallout but before you patch an install mods You also might want to follow a guide to installing mods like the ultimate load order mod You'll get a lot of mods you don't want but it's tested to work well together an also teaches you how to install stuff, which you could also use the sticky topics or pinned topics here to do the same thing which might be more current than say a old how to install mods guide. Fear not though after a while you'll learn the tricks an can install anything or maybe everything you want. Takes some time to learn which is mostly reading stuff, becareful though because stuff gets outdated pretty fast around here. Pretty much people use 1.0.15 plus fake patch 1.4 plus fake patch 1.5 plus FO3edit's master update 1.6 plus FO3edit's master update I'd look into using FOMM (fallout mod manager)FOSE (fallout script extender)GECK (construction tool) FO3edit (Many uses) Also you probably want to have fallout 3 installed outside of the windows program files in it's own folder
Monolithic0117
Look, after trying to update, just launch FO3 regularly and check in the "Settings" - "Display Menu". On the bottom left-hand corner will be your current version. If it's not 1.6, then there's a problem. I'd strongly advise against updating to 1.5, because it is very buggy. You won't require MasterUpdate with patch 1.6. So update to 1.6, and there won't be any other complications, no need to use the fake patch or anything else.
