GardenScarecrow
I have been editing vanilla armor meshes to my liking, and at first it worked fairly well. I have successfully replaced Iron Cuirass mesh and it works pretty stably. With steel, however, it doesn't seem to work as good. Manual replacement bears no results, mesh stays the same. I tried making an ESP, and then a BSA with a dummy ESP, with mixed success, but it doesn't work more often than it does. I even triple-checked file paths in case I made a typo, but it all seems correct. Like I've said before, Iron armor seems to work flawlessly every time, so I am not sure at all what might be the issue with steel in particular. LenaWolfBravil
Perhaps a mod conflict? Are you placing the new mesh in the Oblivion Data\Meshes folder on the correct path? Do you perhaps require archive invalidation? If so, I recommend installing SkyBSA OBSE plugin to make sure that lose files always override BSA archives. GardenScarecrow
Thanks for the reply. The file path does seem correct, I checked it again for a good measure, even compared with the one in Oblivion.bsa. And I do in fact have SkyBSA installed and active. I even tried to run a new game with every other mod disabled, except for patches and engine fixes. I tried running just the mesh files by themselves. Iron works fine, steel does not. I tried running just the mod's BSA and dummy ESP (via Mod Organiser 2, if that helps) to the same result. OBSE was installed properly as well, in accordance with MO2 user instructions. I do not doubt that I might have missed something cruicial on the way, since I am not awfully experienced in Oblivion modding. So thank you for your patience in advance. GardenScarecrow
Now that you've mentioned file override, I do suspect that Unofficial Oblivion Patch might be the culprit. I've just looked into it and it does have armor directory, and it also misses directory for Iron armor entirely, while having directory for Steel, with the only file in there being Cuirass model. What boggles me is that I tried putting my files in such a load order (when I tried the BSA + dummy ESP method) in which they'd override UOP's meshes, but the results were still quite inconsistent. LenaWolfBravil
SkyBSA should have helped, but I would not be surprised if it didn't. I've had inconsistent results with it myself. Yes, the Unofficial Patch edits about 4000 meshes and textures, so not surprising that you're having a conflict. I would suggest disabling also the Unofficial patches for testing, just to make sure that you have nothing that would interfere with your mod. Once you are happy with your models, enable the other mods and install yours as loose files in the Data folder. Make sure that it's your files and not any other end up there in the end (such as from the Unofficial patch). I can't help you on the Mod Organiser, but you can always just open the NIF file with Nifskope or something in order to verify that it is indeed your file. GardenScarecrow
Indeed, it seems that UOP was at the root of it after all. Disabling it did seem to help. I'll attempt figuring out ways to have my mesh override UOP's then. It shouldn't be too hard, now that I know it was the cause. Thank you for your pointers, Lena.
