You are lost.

I just had this idea while exploring the marshes in Skyrim and thought it would be cool if I saw a message in the upper corner saying, "you are lost". Then my compass could turn off to complete the effect. It could even be integrated to work with survival skill levels in survival mode. The lower the skill the more you "get lost".

at first i wasnt understanding correctly..i tought you meant like a reminder that you are not following the right path, but i think you actually mean that once in a while, the compass turns off and gives the notice "you are lost" during the time the compass is off.  That makes me think: it would be cool if in survival mode, we cannot open the normal map, instead, having to equip a map of Tamriel..

Maybe, to get "unlost," you get a mini quest, telling you to find a specific landmark.

"Find a river and travel along it until you find a bridge," for example.  When you find a river with a bridge, it tells you, "Travel on the road until you find a road sign."  When you find the road sign, you get "unlost."

Meanwhile, while you were traveling around, looking for those landmarks, you get beset by stronger than usual ambushers, stronger than normal wild beasts, etc.

Also, while you're lost, your field of view and how far you can see are both limited, making it harder to know where you are.  For example, while you're lost, there would always be tree branches in your way, or tall bushes and tall grassed that limits how far around you, you could see.  Once you got unlost, the vegetation density and vegetation size would return to normal.

The only help you'd get would be knowing what time it was and judging, by the position of the Sun, which way was East or West.

It's a cool idea but I'm just thinking the part of disabling compass, a lot of people don't play with a compass anyway, especially if their list revolves around survival. Maybe your world map is inaccessible, and you take a stamina debuff/screen blurry to imitate stress. Then once you find a town, or road the map and stamina comes back

Hunterborn has a related machanic. If you turn off the compass altogether one of the mod's skills, Sense Direction, lets you do just that. Likewise, Campfire has the instinct skill which lets you sense nearby scroungables with other possible tweaks like scenting the undead if any are nearby.
