It depends on how someone is asking for an update. If someone said, for example, "Update the mod NOW!!", then it will most likely be moderated. If they asked in a more polite way, for example, "Can you update the mod, please? Thanks", then I don't think it will be moderated (well, as long as you don't ask over and over again. That might be considered spamming). If someone else have already asked the author for an update, I wouldn't ask the author again (that could be annoying for an author). Also, keep in mind that it is sometimes impossible for an author to update or reply to comments (for example, if they are dead).
