Game drops hard in fps after installing enb preset

I reinstalled NAT.ENB III, but now my framerate has plummeted. I can't get over 20 fps. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong because I'm doing everything exactly how I did it before.

Here's my load order. None of the other mods caused a drop in framerate. I know this because I tested them.

ENB is notorious for flooring FPS rates. You need a PC with at least an Intel 12700 or AMD 5800X and a RTX3080 Ti or AMD 6900 XT if you are using the "High Quality" preset to get a decent frame rate. Try using the "Medium or Low Quality" presets. You can achieve good FPS with less "High End" hardware using the "High Quality" preset, but that requires manual tuning with ENB Helper.

Is very correct - ENB's are not user-friendly at all. You do need a high end computer to use them.

Also, for those with high end, like myself - my video card does not like ENB's, as they can have a not so friendly cause/effect with high end cards, because of what they try to do.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense. I have a high-end PC, and it ran the enb just fine before. Sure, a few frames were lost, but that was to be expected. Even then, it was only a maximum of 5 fps lost. This is a case of a 40 fps drop (from 60 fps to 20 fps). That's why I know it's not my PC's fault. Also, it runs other graphically taxing games all the time without a problem, so a Skyrim SE enb preset shouldn't be a problem.

Updates are the bane of the Skyrim modding scene.  Updating just one element out of an extensively modded Skyrim build can wreck the whole thing.  Updating your graphics driver can make the whole thing stop working too.  Been there, done that.  Or a Windows update.  I'm still on 1.5.97 for a reason.  You say you had this ENB installed before... but I'm guessing you can't say that your build is 100% the same as it used to be.

My guess would be that you have an INI somewhere with a setting that isn't optimal for the ENB you're trying to install.

Since you're running Mod Organizer 2 (good choice!), use the data tab on the right and search for ini files and go thru them.

I recently consolidated about a dozen INI files that different mods were installing alongside their plugins.  It was a real mess.

There shouldn't be many ENB related INIs floating around though unless your build is really messy.

As @melvinius said, an update can be the cause of the FPS drop. For example, I just updated Water for ENB. In the FOMOD installer, by mistake, I chose the default 4K resolution. My frame rate in certain areas of the map tanked to 15 to 20 FPS. I reinstalled the update with the 2K option (which I should have done if I was paying attention in the first place) and my FPS returned to normal. Take a look at any mods that deal with things like fog, light, water, or other environmental elements that give the GPU a "workout" and see if you updated anything.
