punkrockjustin
Originally posted this in one of the general discussion forums; I did not know about these individual game communities. Had a bug for a while now that I feel can be corrected. I figure throwing my question into the forum is worth a shot. When I fast travel or carriage travel, my game crashes. I've tried to no avail (and will probably keep trying sporadically) to find any mod conflicts, but that isn't my question. If I wait via menu before fast/carriage travelling, it works fine. I can wait one hour or 24 hours, as long as it is the last thing I do before fast/carriage travelling then the game does not crash. This suggests to me that the wait and fast/carriage travel functions share some kind of setting or effect; and I wonder if knowing what it is mightn't lead me to a solution. So my question is: what is shared between waiting via wait menu and carriage/fast travel? Note: I just learned about https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/69326 so I will soon find out if that fixes the bug.
scorrp10
One thing that is common between waiting and fast travelling is the creation of an AutoSave. For a save, the game needs to freeze its script engine. So if you wait, and game freezes the engine to create an autosave without actually moving you, it is simpler to 'unfreeze' - which is likely why traveling afterwards does not cause a crash. Autosave in general is a very finicky process. In fact, ever since I stopped using Auto and Quick Saves completely, and went exclusively with manual saves, my game has been MUCH more stable. So, my suggestion: go into settings menu, and uncheck 'Save on Travel'. See if that helps.
punkrockjustin
Heh, I've been looking into things like fasttravelspeedmult and global time multiplier -- yet I didn't think to turn off autosave. I'll find out if it makes a difference. Cheers Edited December 30, 2024 by punkrockjustin
punkrockjustin
It isn't autosave. The mod I linked above seems like it might make a difference -- with that mod in the mix, sometimes fast/carriage travel works without waiting first. It's a mystery I may just live with.
