jmwhalen1000
I'm running Skyrim SE, (V: 1.6.1170) - Steam I've gotten the attached error message in the past. I was told to install SSE Engine Fix. I did and he problem was resolved. Now, I don't know what I did but I think I accidentally deleted something and all my mods got corrupted, and my game was crashing. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled all my mods, my game, and Vortex. I started reinstalling my mods a few at a time, starting with SKSE64. I'm getting the same error again, except this time, the engine fix isn't solving the issue. I'm getting incredibly frustrated. I've uninstalled and downloaded SKSE and every engine fix I could find, in various combinations. I can't load my game. At one point, I uninstalled everything related to Skyrim. I did a clean install of the game and it did finally load vanilla. I can't seem to get past this issue. I've spent all day and the only positive thing I've accomplished today is not turning my laptop into a thousand dollar frisbee! I've played modded Skyrim, I can't go back to vanilla Skyrim. Please help! Thanks. JMWhalen1000
HeyYou
Do you have the right version of SKSE for your game version?
jmwhalen1000
Yes. Latest version. I looked into the file and the DLL is right there, but it's not reading it.
7531Leonidas
Some little while ago, one or two others posted on the Skyrim SE forum ( https://forums.nexusmods.com/forum/8877-skyrim-se/ ) when they had a similar problem. One of them had not downloaded the correct Engine Fixes SSE parts 1 and/or 2, and the other did not manually place the part 2 .dll in the correct location. There was a little confusion as to which file version to d/l. Just double-check yourself, these are the most common causes of your error notification. jmwhalen1000
I downloaded with Vortex. I then d/l'd it manually. I followed the directions very carefully as to the file path to place it. For giggles, when I got the error message last time, I didn't shut the game down and it loaded and worked perfectly. It's working so I'll take it. God, I'm almost afraidnof what's going to happen when I get a new computer! Thanks for your assistance.

The trick is, do NOT install your games in the program files folder, or even the C drive, if you can avoid it..... UAC went REALLY overboard in win 11, and it gets worse with every update.
