Some skill books not offering the perk ...

New lil problem I just ran into and like the other problems I'm perplexed as usual ... go figure 🥴

Anyways, I'm using the Alternate Start mod along with Helgen Reborn and I chose to start my adventure Camping In The Woods

and the first perk book I get is at the Bandit Camp where you get the One Handed perk. So far so good, the next perk book I run

into is the Smithing Skill book located in Embershard Mine BUT for some reason or another I do not get the perk from it ... confused now I am 🙄

Then the next perk book is the Archery one found in the Hunters Cabin in Riverwood and low and behold I get that perk ... now my minds blown 💫

What could be a reason this is happening, one book is good one ain't then the other is ... any of the smarter than I am have a clue I would appreciate it !

Thanks ~

PERK books?   They are not perk books.    They are SKILL books.   When you read a skill book you did not read before, your corresponding skill goes up by 1.    (Unless you got Scholar's Insight, in which case it goes up by 2)

If you are actually getting PERK POINTS by reading skill books, it means you have some sort of mod responsible for this change.  If you actually do mean skill increases, I wonder if you may have read a wrong book at Embershard.

One mod I greatly recommend:   Unread Books Glow    Books you have not read yet will have a glow.   Unread skill books in particular have a bright orange glow, so there is no mistake.

I'm so stoopid I meant Skill Books  🤒

Anyways, when I read the first book at the Bandit Camp I get the One Handed " whatever " it's called ... same at the Hunters Cabin but in Embershard the Smithing book doesn't give me the " whatever " it's called  🤔

Hope that makes more sense than before 👍

If you haven't already read that particular book elsewhere, this is probably some kind of mod conflict, where the placed book has been altered somehow.  You could try the More Informative Console mod to see if anything has affected it.

Personally, I use Alternate Skill Books ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/25887 ), which has the effect of speeding up how fast your experience increases in that particular skill, making skill books much more useful, IMO.
