Instant Crash with any mod *Fixed*

Recommended Posts

The same thing happens to me, everything crashed even after uninstalling the mods and removing them, even after removing the game from Vortex, I had to check the integrity of the files again and it found an unvalidated file to re-download, only after it downloaded it did it work again.
I'll point out that I've been using Vortex for a long time, for Fallout 4, Skyrim etc etc, so I know perfectly well how to do the initial deployment and unless there is something new to set up on this game, I didn't make any mistakes in the initial setup.

Now I try the fix suggested above, thanks for the information!

I found the problem! Vortex is messing up the plugin.txt  file. After restoring the file to the original load order of the base ESP, there were no more issues. So Uninstall all the mods in Vortex. Then delete all the lines in the plugins.txt file and copy in the original load order. After that, you can reinstall the mods through Vortex without any issues.

The correct load order is as follows:

Oblivion.esm
DLCBattlehornCastle.esp
DLCFrostcrag.esp
DLCHorseArmor.esp
DLCMehrunesRazor.esp
DLCOrrery.esp
DLCShiveringIsles.esp
DLCSpellTomes.esp
DLCThievesDen.esp
DLCVileLair.esp
Knights.esp
AltarESPMain.esp
AltarDeluxe.esp
AltarESPLocal.esp

Where to find the plugins.txt file?

Guillin's fix worked for me!
After looking at the load order before / after I install any mod it litterally just jumbles them up.
The game itself (oblivion.esm) is one of the last things to load. No wornder it crashes.

So just put whatever mods you have at the very end after that. Refreshing the list in Vortex will change the order maybe slightly, as one of the defaults .esm's was placed at the very end, but you can either manually move it up in vortex or try running it as is if it doesnt crash.

This doesn't sound like a hard thing to fix with Vortex.  Obviously everyone is having an issue using Vortex and ES IV remaster.

I had it too, I thought I messed up something and triple checked the directories and all, I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling Oblivion to a different directory with no difference. I'm gonna try the solution above

There's actually a button in the load order section called "Reset plugins file" which will fix this in fewer steps

plugin.txt for Oblivion Remastered, I have the GamePass version so looked up the location for Steam online, please correct me if I don't have it quite right, but I think I do.

GamePass

\\XboxGames\The Elder Scrolls IV- Oblivion Remastered\Content\OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data - Plugins.txt

Steam

\\steamapps\common\Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data - Plugins.txt
