This started a bit ago, reinstalled and it worked fine UNTIL i loaded a mod through vortex, then error. i wonder if vortex was as ready for a remastered Oblivion as they say it was.

I just changed the folder Vortex looks at to steamapps\common\Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered which has OblivionRemastered-Win64-Shipping.exe in one of its subfolders, verified game integrity, and successfully launched Oblivion through Vortex, and "Skip Intro Screens AND 'press any key" worked flawlessly.

As soon as I added other mods in (Ultimate Engine Tweaks or Oblivion Remastered High Quality Music) it broke again.

Idk if we should be using the Shipping one or the regular .exe in the main folder, or if vortex is getting confused which folders to install which mods in.

Got work in the morning, so I'm out of time.

I'm going to keep playing around with it for a few hours (as opposed to enjoying the game) and maybe i'll come across a work around that works. first thing i'm going to do is see if adding a mod manually causes anything (shouldn't). keep you posted.

OK, SO.......vortex is borked for me for some reason. it may be for others as well. I fully uninstalled, reinstalled, removed save file location folder (with engine and other inis) and went in like a virgin. Played up through Chorrol and even freed Battlehorn. Only had one crash and it was the old fffffffffffffff error (which is a UE5 issue, hopefully to be resolved eventually), but besides that had zero issues.

Next, i powered up the ol vortex, pointed it at the OR install, dropped in Unleveled Item Rewards by trainwiz, clicked on my icon to launch OR and BAM error 50. i removed the aforementioned UIR mod (removed and deleted file via vortex), clicked on my icon to launch and BAM error 50......now, i have heard that verifying files works, but i don't trust steam any further than i do beth as fas as bugs, so again i fully uninstalled, erased all signs of OR being on my system (no, i didn't go registry diving), and started over. skip to the part where this time i did NOT open vortex and let it get its grubby little claws in my folder system, but manually installed UIR (thanks, trainwiz) along with adding it to the plugins.txt file (very important, that), started OR up, and bing bang boom wakka wakka there was my splash screen, followed by another run through the sewers and off to chorrol with jack all for issues (that means none).

Did i stop there, however? no i did not. i then went, just to be a weiner, and grabbed a TRAINER (GASP! GASP! THE HORRORS!!!) and started OR through it. yep...not a glitch, not a glimmer, not a leaf out of place. I whacked around some slaughterfish with my newly found godly powers (because why not), and finally grew bored and came here to report the excellent news to anyone reading this (excellent to all but the vortex devs and coders, who have some work to get started on).

TLDR: mods work on a fresh install, just don't use vortex at all.

Was running Vortex for the first time for Oblivion Remastered, and after installing a few mods, I encountered this very issue.

When running through the files that Vortex deployed, it seemed everything was fine.

Went into 'Load Order' and attempted to open the plugin file by clicking on 'View Plugins File' and noticed it couldn't find anything.

The load order also looked odd... as I saw the AltarESPMain.esp and AltarDeluxe.esp plugins at the top of the load order and not 'Oblivion.esm'.

Figured it might have been the plugin files causing it. Ended up being the case for my install.

The Fix

Reset the plugins file by going to 'Load Order' > 'Reset Plugins File'

Verify the plugin file was created by clicking on 'View Plugins File' - The Plugins.txt file opened.

Verify the 'plugins.txt' file exists within '\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data' for Steam installation - Other installations, you should be able to find within your OR install folder 'OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data')

Check the plugin load order and ensure Oblivion.esm loads first, followed by all the DLC .ESPs, then Knights.esp, AltarESPMain.esp, AltarDeluxe.esp, AltarGymNavigation.esp, TamrielLeveledRegion.esp, then all the mod .ESPs that Vortex has installed.

This 100% fixed it. Been fighting for the last while completely clean files, no mods installed and still getting the Unhandled exception on every launch from steam and vortex. Tried other fixes and nothing. Put the load order as you listed and it fired immediately. Closed the game dropped in all my mods and we are good to go.
