Problem with Reshade and Oblivion (Resolved)

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to find info online before posting here but I didnt find any ,

I am having an issue with with reshade enabled , the game performance is lowered by 25-35 fps even without any effects enabled just reshade toggled , and with effects enabled its 30-50fps loss , it also gives me INSANE frame skipping and stuttering when I enable it, the frame drop I could handle if its stable , but frame skipping makes it unplayable.

I am aware that more or different effects can have different performance cost but I have been using reshade for many years on many different games and reshade was never behaving this way.

I am running the game at 2k resolution on High with shadows on medium and textures on ultra ,with DLSS on quality and frame genereation is ON , fps wise I get stable and smooth 100-120 fps outdoors and 165 fps indoors , without reshade enabled ofc , I have the game installed on nvme ssd running on pcie gen 4.

Since the game is running on ue5 closest comparison would be stalker 2 and there I was using reshade and I was having no issues at all , just 5-7 fps drop and no stuttering introduced with enabling reshade.

I have the latest gpu drivers and I am using latest reshade 6.4.1.

I really want to get the game as close as possible in color pallete and atmosphere to the original before I start playing it for real , but I have been stuck with trying to fix this ever since the remaster got released.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

my specs are:
i5 14600k
32gb 6000mhz ddr5
RTX 4070
Samsung 980 pro nvme ssd

Exact same issue here. If I press the hotkey to Enable/Disable all effects, my FPS shoots straight back up to normal.  I'll update you if I find anything but no luck so far, and I've been trying for a couple days.

My specs are:
RTX 5080
i9 10900k
32gb DDR4 3800

I did notice this as well, well, it seems the shading needs some time to store the new shaders while you play. Just give it some time, an hour or so...  ๐Ÿ˜‰  Now the game works fast, with Reshade and Ayleid 2 but it sure took time...  Well I did also compress a hard drive meanwhile...  ๐Ÿ˜ฎ   Well test it anyway...

I thought my computer was gonna melt, so I did change the settings from Ultra to High, and I also set FPS to fixed 30 fps, which  is really enough as your eyes can only see approx 25 fps anyway. All movies is 24-30 fps except a few special ones that is 60 fps as an example. I did set DLSS Balanced, DLSS Sharpen to 20 in the game settings. (I have a Nvidia 3080 RTX + 1080p monitor)

(The moonlanding 1969, live TV transition, did only have 10 fps....  ๐Ÿ˜‰  320x200 pixels)

UPDATE: So I think this is caused by the Generic Depth Buffer addon.

I disabled it and the problem is completely gone. I'm only losing like 5 FPS total WITH all of my effects loaded. Feels amazing. Luckily I'm not using any shaders that need the depth addon, but honestly even if I was, it's worth losing them until this gets fixed.

I do try Ayleid 3 now. I did decrease DLSS sharpness, to 7...   I did need to adjust some Brightness (decreased some) and increased some Contrast, as Ayleid 3 is toooo bright...  ๐Ÿ˜‰

omg thank you, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out , works like a charm now , I just wanted to use a reshade that has a only 2 effects lift gamma gain and tonemap ,so depth buffer is not needed at all. I've also posted this on reddit and reshade forums so I reply on reshade forum and edit reddit post and credit you if ppl with the same problem stumble upon this.
Thanks again , you're champ!

about what you said 30 fps being enough and human eye not seeing more than 25fps anway , I do not want to argue , I thought the same long time ago as I have read something about it online 20 odd years ago online ,however  I never was so wrong , I went from generic 60hz 1080p screen to 165hz 1440p screen with g-sync and the difference is absolutely insane , so much less input lag ,the smoothness when you are panning the camera, g-sync works wonders even if your frame rate drops , I (and I am not exaggerating) transcended and I can absolutely  NOT go back , I literally can not play games that are locked to 60 or lower anymore at all which is the reason I do not own any consoles, which might be bad for me financially as I have to upgrade my pc to keep up with the frame rates ๐Ÿ˜„ , but thanks to technologies like dlss/fsr and frame generation that easier to achieve at least.
Anyway ,again , my intention is not to argue just sharing an experience I had when I switched from 60 to 165hz and how wrong I was and how glad I am right now that I was wrong because if I didnt I would miss the pleasure of enjoying playing games on high refresh rates.

My suggestion is , if you are able to , get a high refresh rate screen and give it a go , and you will see , you DO NOT KNOW what you are missing until you  experience it ( come back to me if you do and you will thank me โค๏ธ )

Ayleid 3 looks very nice indeed ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a nice day.

@ArinBaneYes and I did also add that some Cinemas do play a few movies in 60 fps. Those that have seen those films, claims it is like watching a live theater. Well I do notice the smothness "issue" when I pan the camera fast. But it works for me anyway.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had to edit Ayleid 3 a lot in game, decreased the Saturation some, increased some Contrast and decreased the Brightness some inside Reshade, as it was to bright and the colors did look a bit to much, well less natural but after those changes, it looks better than Ayleid 2 as I did compare them as they are both available from Reshade. The backside with Ayleid 2 was the dark nights and dark dungeons, a dark dungeon makes sense, but I do wanna see where I set down my feet.  ๐Ÿ˜„  There are so many settings but it is often enough to just make small changes to the basic ones.
