Hi everyone,

On 23 July, we set up a new Editor Playground page on the site to allow mod authors to try out the Markdown editor we've been using in newer parts of the website.

We posted a link to this page in the Mod Author Discord and asked for feedback via the HotJar survey displayed in the bottom-right of the screen (this may be hidden by Adblock!).

Here's a very brief summary of the findings from both the survey results and the surrounding conversations:

What you liked:

  • Markdown is a simpler, more modern, and more universally understood formatting language.
  • Alt Text for images is a great addition.

What you thought could be better:

  • More formatting: colours, fonts, text alignment, image and video sizes, and tables. (Perhaps something like GitHub Flavour Markdown)
  • Nested lists don't work particularly well, especially when swapping from Markdown view to WYSIWYG view.
  • Syntax highlighting for code blocks (including for languages like Papyrus, where possible!)

The response to the editor has been incredibly interesting, and we can say with a fair amount of confidence that it would be the preferred option if it were a little more feature-rich. While we don't have any plans to work on the editor itself in the immediate future, it's been great to collect a hit list of things we should look at before rolling it out more widely on the website. So thank you all!

If you have any more thoughts to share on the topic, feel free to reply to this thread (if you've already completed the survey!).
