stebbinsd
Being a mage in Skyrim sucks. And no, I'm not talking about the locals' hatred of your kind; I'm talking about gameplay. In Oblivion, mage was my favorite class; there was so much versitility in spells that you could literally do anything you wanted, and the privilege of making your own spells meant that whatever creativity wasn't already in the game could be created by you. But in Skyrim, you get your ass handed to you if you try to be a straight-up pure mage. Mage armor is pathetic; I can honestly get the equivalent of ebonyflesh - the penultimate mage armor spell in the game - at the very beginning of the game, just by get four hidden armor ratings by wearing four pieces of armor. The "Mage armor" perk can potentially triple the effects, but only if you're not wearing any regular armor. This means that, without master spells, the maximum armor you can get is 300. Even the master spell takes an insane amount of magicka to cast (putting you in a disadvantage when the fight begins), and takes a whopping three seconds to charge! So yeah... you're much better off spending your perk points on an actual armor skill! In Frostfall, the unforgiving struggle that mages face is increased tenfold. Your first destination is, obviously, the College of Winterhold, which Frostfall has programmed to equate to "freeze your dick off in two minutes flat." What's even worse is that all the apparrel that's geared toward mages simply offers "standard" protection with W.E.A.R. enabled.Frostfall doesn't let up when you're trying to cross a river, either, mage or otherwise. It would be so much easier if you could simply walk across the water, like you could in Oblivion, but you can't. Dragonborn gives you a water-walking enchantment, but only if you use heavy armor. I'd like someone to create a very simple mod: One that gives you access to disenchantable mage armor items. With a grand soul gem, 100 enchanting skill, and all relevant perks, you can get 100 mage armor enchantment. I'd like this to stack with the mage armor perk if you equip the enchantment while not wearing actual armor, and the enchantment is applied to an apparrel that itself is compatible with the perk. This way, with just one enchantment and the Lord Stone, an ebonyflesh spell would bring you up to 650 armor, darn close to the maximum. Boots of Waterwalking would be nice, too. Just... let me disenchant them and put them a pair of boots of my choosing. Last but not least, I'd like Brina's Ornaments to sell a set of "thick" clothes for mages. A thick hood, thick robes, thick gloves, and thick shoes. The padding on these clothes would provide ful exposure protection, but they would have base values of 100 gold each, just to give players something to work towards. Any takers? EgoAltar
Disenchantable Boots of Waterwalking has been handled here , as long as you have Dragonborn DLC. The same author has made a Waterwalking Spell Tome (DB also required). As far as Mage armor, I found the in-game mechanic sufficient, even playing at Master- as long as you can avoid getting hit too much. If you end up going toe-to-toe a lot, perhaps you should be wearing armor. Remember, TES V also added wards which give an additional defensive option.
