barthmelow
I have had an idea for a mod called 'The Dwemer's Last Invention' for a long time. I contacted a modder who speacilalizes in body re-modelling/ texturing and they said that they couldn't do a mod like the one I'm thinking of. He also suggested that I post my idea here. So here is the first part of the story as I perceive it . . . 'You have been roaming Cyrodiil for months now, searching for new dungeons and caves from which to gather loot. After a particularly dissapointing day, you set up camp at the sun fades. Heavily you sit on the ground. Suddenly, you hear a gong-like bang beneath you. Curiously you wipe away the dirt from the ground. As hundreds of years of grime is wiped away, a door begins to materialise. The door is large and round, with intricate carving round the outside and a lock mechanism in the middle. The whole thing is made of brass. You have been to Morrowind before. You know in a second that this . . . . door . . . . is Dwemer. The mechanism is simple, and soon you are gazing into the tunnel it concealed. Tentatively you allow yourself to be swallowed by the pristine hollow. After half an hour winding through the tunnel netowrk, you find yourself at the entrance of a huge cavern. You can just about see the other wall, but above and below are endless chasms. However, it is not the cavern that intruiges you. It is what it holds. A precariously thin walkway leads halfway across the abyss, and in the centre the walway widens to a circular platform. On the platofrm's side edges are machines that look like desks with glowing tops. In the centre of the platform is the very centre of your attention. A large tank glows florecent green, and suspended in it's regulated waters is . . . You cant make it out from where you are standing. A man? No, large sections of the figure's body are missing. You edge closer, your gaze fixed on the figure in the tank. When you are about three meters away, the reality dawns. An armour-like frame is held by metal claws in the tank. It is clear the frame is meant to fit a human. By looking at the array of other mechanical tools in the tank, you realise it is meant to permanently fit. This suit is designed to be fused with a humanoid body. Flesh to wire. Blood to chemical. Bone to frame. As you youch the tank in wonder, the glowing desks come to life, bleeping and humming alll around you. One panel catches your eye. It reads : 'Hybrid frame ready. Begin fusion?' Two buttons labeled Yes and No are below the tile. The machine in the water looks like it was meant to kill. The fingers are adorned with claws. A spiky spine runs down the back. A cylinder with a glowing white tip is also attached to one of the hands, as if pointing. You contemplate all that you could do. All you could achieve if you were fused to a piece of deadly armour. But you can see there will be much pain to get there. After what feels like and era, you press 'Yes'. Immediately the tank drains. and a glass panel at the front opens. You step inside. It smells of . . . nothing. Completely sterile. You take off your armour and clothes and place your limbs , head and torso one by one into the gaping frame. After a few seconds, the frame closes. Sharp pain shoots through your body as the spikes penetrate the flesh - an assurance that you have now begun what you cannot end. The tanks again fills with liquid. Just as you lose consciousness, you see the surgical arms move in to start thier work. . . . Pain. Incocievable pain. Like you have been ripped apart. Gently the pain subsides. Your vision is tinged yellow. You realise they are the circular eyepieces you saw on the empty frame. They are the only eyes you have. The liquid is still there, but you can breathe. It seems your mouth is gone aswell. The liquid drains after a minute and the hatch opens again. It is the first time you can see yourself properly. At first you are horrified at what you have become. But then you realise the power you have. The cylinder seems to launch blazing bolts. The claws are harder than steel. as you are testing the claws, you accidently catch yourself on the arm. the cut heals in a second. Your attention is drawn to the tubes protruding form your apper arm. Talos knows what they are doing to you. After fully exploring your knew form, the sickening fact dawns. You will never be the same again. Flash! A figure appears infront of you. It looks like a blue ghost. It speaks in a language you have never heard before, but you understand it. "If you are listening to this, you are the first child of our latest invention. You are a Hybrid. A fusion of man and machine. Imperfect with perfect. Irrational with rational. Creative with computive. Rebellious with obedient. You now have acess to our most secure libraries and most secret weapons. The locations of these places has been programmed into your memory. If anything should happen to the Dwemer race, it is up to you to find out why it has happened and aid us if need be. Do you duty. You are a Hybrid." The ghost dissapears. You have wondered many sleepless nights why the Dwemer disspapeared from Red Mountain, as have others. Now you have the power to find out. True to the ghost's word, you know where you are meant to go, locations scattered and hidden across Cyrodiil. You must find out what happened to the Dwemer. It is your Duty. You are a Hybrid.' Well, I hope that has told you most of what you need to know. The player then goes on to find the databases and weapons, which lead them to the place where it all began, Red Mountain (I reccomend a worldspace that the player is teleported to) . There they find . . . Well, what they find is up to you. The Dwemer could be in a different world. They could all be dead. They could have been on a secret mission to find an ancient artifact, and they found it. It depends what you feel. After all, if you decide to use my idea it is the least I can do let you decide the finale. I have a good idea of what the hybrid will look like. If you want to take a look, a BASIC blueprint is attached to this post. This is NOT final, it just gives you the jist. Please, if you are experienced in this kind of thing and you want to get together with a group and make this idea a reality, I would be very grateful. And maybe some other people would like the mod as well . . .

AncientSpaceAeon
You should ask mr siika, he's good at creating dwemer things.
simonp92
The idea is nothing special in my opinion. but i must say that you are a very good writer.. but it would be alot of work creating all the new tile sets and so. plus it would be quite lore-breaking since there werent dwemers in cyrodil. barthmelow
I planned for the 'Door' to be near the Oblivion/Morrowind border, because the ruins wouldn't just stop at the border. And the point of the mod is that the Hybrid was secret, only for the eyes of those who knew it was there. So it wouldn't really be lore-breaking as there is no lore there to break. Anyway, what better way to hide your best invention from your enemies than put it somewhere they don't expect?
minion5
haha reminds me of wolverine. The tank with the needles, and the water when he was made into weapon x. A huge amount of pain to be transformed into weapon x. Claws harder than steel. The cut healed within seconds. I mean come on, it had to be at least an inspiration. :whistling:
barthmelow
Sorry about my crap drawing, but the metal 'Claws' are surgically swapped for the fingernails. I only realised the likeness to the wolverine story halfway through. However, if you look at it there are many, many differences: like the fact that your skeleton is not coated with metal, the invention is hundreds of years old and apart from the claws (when thy're out) you can't really tell wolverine from a human. Thanks for the comments though.
jonesjoshuar
When i think about this i think of the outfit from dead space game. All rusty looking. he suit would have to be an unremovable piece of armor of some sort. This i think is all doable. To make it interesting though there would have to be animation and thats a tough nut to crack. As far as lore breaking goes, oh well. Bethesoda breaks the lore too. Yetg, i do not see it outside the relm of possibility anyway. I would keep it simple like to the armor and what not. Recreating red mountain and stuff is a too much of a project. (ask the people that are currently working on to make all of morrowind) stick with the armor part though and this will be awesome. Of course if you cannot remove it , i suggest a quest so the player is not stuck with it if he or she grows tired of it. (like vampirism) The basis of this is a good idea.
