Small problem with final Thieves guild quest (contains spoilers)

Hello everyone

 

A while ago, I finished The Ultimate Heist. I then read the UESP's topic about that quest and realised that part of the quest was missing in my case.

 

After the part where you need the boots of Springheel Jack to access the one switch, you reach the part where you need the Arrow of Extrication to hit a button and something happens to the statue where the stairs to the next door get revealed and two elven statues attack you.

 

Except that didn't happen in my case. I reached the relevant area and there were no elven statues or big statue which you hit with the arrow. Where the statue should be, there is a hole in the floor with stairs to the next door. Effectively, the part which requires the arrow is not there anymore. When I open the CS, I see the statues there and everything is fine. This must be caused by a mod. Does anyone have any information on this? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I'll have to do that tomorrow. I need to go to bed soon and Oblivion is installed on my other PC which is turned off at the moment.

If my load order looks a bit messed up, it is not playing Oblivion for a while combined with installing a large number of mods. I have not been able to do anything more than run BOSS.

 

Please Desdimona, don't post your load order suggestions here. I have seen it posted on this forum more times than I wish to count. Also, I have given my reason as to why my load order is not properly configured. I'll sort it out sometime in the future.

 

Also, I would like to point out that I would suspect these mods of causing the problem, since I have had them for as long as I have had Oblivion:

Advanced Weather System (used v3 at first, never updated)
Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (used v1.3 at first, currently v1.34b5)
Living Economy (always had latest)
Night-eye Goggles (always had latest)
Unique Landscapes - Entius Gorge (v1.4, I think, never updated)
UL - Lost Coast (never updated)
Bartholm (v3, currently v4)

 

I hope someone can help me with this. I will also try investigate the suspect mods and see if I can find anything.

But you still able to finish it, right ? Those statues are just "guardians", you may want to bypass them, they don't give any armor or anything useful. uesp.net also mention that's it's easier to sneak past them (you're a thief, right?), so you're not missing quite a fight. uesp.net also mention that fight with them is challenging, but I don't think no more than stealing the Elder Scroll itself.

 

If you really want to fix it, maybe it have something to do with mods that changing NPCs (they are NPCs). One of my most recommended things to do is to disable all mods first, to be sure that the problem is caused by the mods, not just silly random bugs.

Yes I can still finish that quest. It's just that not having the statues there is a bit disappointing. This problem also affects the statue which you have to hit with the arrow of extrication. There is no statue there, only a hole in the floor with some stairs to the next door (the hole which is revealed if you hit the statue correctly, I assume). It also gets irritating carrying around an arrow which has no useful purpose (and I think it stays a quest item indefinitely unless I use it on the statue, meaning it forever stays in my inventory).

 

I do like to play as an Argonian thief (if a thief is defined as someone who shoot arrows from the darkness rather than run up to the enemy swinging a sword and who likes to use covert tactics in their games).

 

I am not even doing the Thieves Guild quests at the moment, let alone the final one, so testing that part again would take a bit of console work. I don't know if it's a random bug though. I have been through that part of the quest at least 4 times and the statues weren't there every time.

For everyone who is interested, I have fixed the problem. First I loaded everything into the Construction set and visited the Halls of Epoch (the area with the statues) and found that the main statue was gone (compared to CS with just Oblivion loaded where the statue was there). I then found out what the Editor ID for that statue was.

 

I then loaded every mod into TES4Edit and then searched the list of records for the Editor ID I found earlier. I found it added in by Oblivion.esm and also saw that the reference was deleted by ULtheLostCoast.esp. This confirms my suspicion that it was one of the mods I always had that caused the problem. I was using "Unique Landscapes - Beaches of Cyrodill v1.5". I upgraded to v1.6.2 and it was mentioned in the readme that v1.6 "fixes a major bug in the final Thieves Guild mission". I haven't confirmed whether this is true or not though.
