Eshenaleros
wouldn't this be possible with a shader effect? let's say there's a mod that adds a crystal ball to your inventory. when you click on the crystal ball, the screen goes blue until you click it again. like the nighteye shader effect. only instead of blue you get the polarized red and blue. some of the mods on this site have done some pretty funky things with the nighteye shader
Maigrets
I agree with Vagrant. For one thing how far in the future do you think this is going to happen for games? And who besides a select few will be able to afford the systems to run it? Developers will have to make it pretty high end so it doesn't look like crap. Game developers would be taking a huge risk with this idea if it's unpopular. Because a few people say it will be amazing, and it might be, doesn't mean it's feasible. I doubt producers will spend extra millions on old movies for this technology either, even Raider's of the Lost Ark. The recent Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D was a dismal failure and I know it was using the red and blue glasses. It looked awful. But, knowing Hollywood and it's continual recycling of old movies and ideas, they may give it a try. It would have to be pretty amazing though to be worthwhile. Watching a 3D movie with the glasses is one thing, but a true 3D game is another. A number of people, and I know a few personally, have great difficulty playing modern games as it is without vertigo and nausea interfering with their gameplay. But, I suppose that's their problem. Myself, I'd prefer a virtual reality environment over holograms, if development continues in that area. Now, that would be REAL immersion. Funnily enough I was around for the change from black and white to colour. I was born too late to see/hear sound make it into movies...
jaysus
well i tested one of these "polarized" 3d monitors lol... cant say that it was fun... my eyes started bleeding tears... k that was like 5 yrs ago but nevertheless the system stays the same... i guess the problem is that its a flat screen which works with a very fast exchange of images from two angles... or at least did for these monitors and even though you didnt actually see it it was similiar to the flickering of a tv monitor but that the picture change was mabye to drastic or somin... i was just a horrible experience... these vr googles worked a little better but still were annoying and eye hurting regarding the red and green glasses, i dont remember if oblivion has somin like that but fallout has these nifty image space modifiers, they can easily achieve such a red green shift, adjusting it might be hard tho
