Marvy666
I have been shopping around and I think that I'm going to buy this combo from newegg. Do you think that it will adequatrely play skyrim? And with a bunch of mods? Specifically ones that make it look beautiful?http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1531829 Same questions, except how about with this laptop?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312829 Ive been playing skyrim on ps3 and I'm finally economically ready to get a decent PC and Laptop, please help me with suggestions- i dont know what to do, but i know i want to play hi res skyrim.thank you so much for your thoughts! sincerly-Marv (newbie newb dude) Edited January 29, 2014 by Marvy666
FMod
It's got bad things about it, but it will play Skyrim. It won't be pretty and it won't be smooth, but it will play. It will beat PS3, but probably not by enough to warrant this kind of expense.I doubt there are much better builds for the same price. You'd generally want to spend a little more, at least as much as $750, to get a well-performing machine. So you're getting a PC and a laptop. Since you clearly won't need to use the laptop at home, why are you getting a 15.6" and not a more portable 13"-14" model? edit: Also, another option, if you do want a big not-so-portable laptop, is to buy a much more powerful laptop to use both as a notebook and as a desktop. Just plug in keyboard, mouse, display, and you're good to go. Edited January 29, 2014 by FMod
JimboUK
It would play it but don't expect to get the stunning visuals you see posted by some people in the imageshare. Do you really need both? if not you'd do a lot better picking one and investing everything in that.
Marvy666
Well I need a laptop for school and for bed- Ive never had a laptop before and because I'm going to school my mother has generously offered to buy me a laptop and desktop (the desktop was my idea) with a budget of 1200 tops. Those two links i posted total to maybe 1100 BUT the one thing i forgot to mention with the desktop is that I was also planning on putting a Solid state harddrive in it, (120 gigs), I dont know if that would change the game or not (literally)but I was wondering, you said if i spent 750 I;d get what i was looking for. Well how could I improve that package in a way to be able to play skyrim hi-res and beautiful?Would I up the graphics card or motherboard? What would you reccommend? See with the solid state drive, and that desktop combo pack, I'd be spending 650. so 750 isnt too far out. What would you reccommend (please) ? and thanks! Also, what about the laptop? am i dumb or is the laptops graphics card better than the PCs? Edited January 31, 2014 by Marvy666
JimboUK
An SSD is a bit of a luxury when you're on a budget, it's something you could always add later, for games you'll get better overall performance spending the money on the GPU rather than the SSD. Do you really need a full laptop for school? if you're not going to be doing anything intensive then a small notebook should more than do the job, I have a small 11" i3 one that does everything other than gaming, they're easier to carry around as well. Marvy666
what do you mean by "full" lap top? I dont think I nneed a full laptop like... I'll mostly be using it for school, but actually the most Demanding thing that I'm going to want to use it for is music, to be able to use it Live (like run audio out of it/ maybe MIDI) and maybe Home Recording Studio (Firewire necessary because i have ProTools. This didn't occur to me til just this very second so I realize that that is a game changer, I figured I could use my Desktop to record (and when the time comes, in the future, buy an Audio Card) So if this laptop could be equipped to be used Live, that would be great, but- its not necessary. What is The GPU that you reccommend I upgrade from the combo pack, is it the Mother Board? or the Processor? i should know this >.<
Marvy666
I heard in passing that I may want an i5 or better to run skyrim with hi-res mods, so I started looking at those and I came across this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883255379This is a "daily deal" tho so i think it lasts only for today! What sort of requirements would Skyrim with Hi Res mods.. require? thank you so much for you input and help! edit: okay so i heard that the grphics card is crap with that last link... perhaps an upgrade kit?for some reason I cant find any information anywhere on the web or on the nexus site as to what requirements I need for my computer/ someone please help Edited January 31, 2014 by Marvy666
Thor.
If you spend a bit more you can a decent rig for Skyrim. 900$ is a good bargain for such a machine. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103854
FMod
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883255379This is a "daily deal" tho so i think it lasts only for today! It's crap. Old CPU and joke GPU that you wouldn't even need because the onboard is comparable. Thor's suggestion is not what you'd build - no point in i7 for Skyrim, i5 is just as good - but all things considered for $850 I'd say its good. Not a "jump on it" deal, but all right, especially if you're not looking to build. GTX760 is sufficient to have a good all-around experience with Skyrim and really every game there is. It would only stumble in torture modes that add little to visuals.
Thor.
That 1gb of vram will set you back if you are planning on modding skyrim. The gtx760 is good for maxing out any game that throws at it.
