Re-installing DLC

Hi. I'm a long-time Oblivion player who did one play through of Fallout 3 on XBOX a few months back. I liked it so much that I bought it for PC with intent to mod the hell out of it. Last weekend I installed F3, downloaded patch 1.6, installed ArchiveInvalidation, FOOK, and MMM3, and downloaded all DLC from Windows Live. I started a new game and everything looked fine. But when I went to Craterside in Megaton some of the items for sale were missing icons and said "PipOS error -26" next to them.

Then, upon my first encounters with enemies, I came upon a Rat Mole and a Vicious Dog, both of which had their textures flickering on and off. One second they looked fine, the next they were wire-frame models, and the next they had partial textures with big patches missing.

I am trying to figure out what the problem is. First off, I know that patch 1.5 caused problems with mods. And I also see in the ArchiveInvalidation readme that it says that running F3 from the Vista Programs folder, which I am doing, has been known to cause problems.

I have no idea what is wrong, but I am thinking that my best bet would be to re-install fresh into a different directory, and avoid applying any official patches. The question I have is about all the DLC I downloaded. I bought all 4 official ones. How can I save these and apply them to a new install??? Can I re-download a la Valve's Steam. I paid a good amount of $$$ for them and don't want to lose them.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can find them on your hard drive somewhere, I forget exactly where and don't have time to look it up right now. Most have an ESM and a couple BSAs, Broken Steel adds some videos to your \Data\Video folder. Once you find 'em, back them up somewhere to be safe, then you can feel free to nuke your FO3 install.

Once you reinstall, first apply 1.6, then just slap your DLC's in the \Data folder and make sure not to forget the videos for Broken Steel. Then go mod-happy.

Thanks for the advice.

But I'm confused. I thought patches 1.5 & 1.6 were causing mod conflicts. One of the reasons I want to do a fresh install is to go back to 1.0 or whatever the store-bought version is. The sticky topic at the top of this forum--about getting DLCs and mods to work--advises you to go back to pre-1.5 version.

Has anyone seen that texture flickering issue before? If so, what causes it?

No, 1.6 is pretty much the best thing to happen to Fallout 3. 1.5 was the horrible one for mods. All that stuff about fake patch and UFO3P is really unnecessary now.

I'd backup the DLCs, do a complete uninstall of FO3 (and delete the folder if it remains) and then reinstall from disc, patch 1.6, then DLCs and then mods.

From what I can find, on vista, DLC is stored in \users\(username)\appdata\local\Microsoft\Xlive\DLC\
