Evening all,

As some of you may or may not know, I updated the Armour section this evening and one of the armours was "Unknown", because it's type wasn't obvious to me. I listed it as either Mithril or Ebony, but it is just a likely that it isnt either of these things than that it is.

So, I would would like you all to speculate on what it may or may not be, in order that a more solid suggestion can be given in the article.

Whoa... ok... that's cool... if a little odd. :D

It looks a bit too outlandish for the new take on Imperial Chain to me. And Ebony is much darker. I'm not sure if Tamriel even has Mithril...

Hmm... well, I'm kinda stumped, really. Perhaps, the body pieces at least, are a new form of Adamantium armour? Or perhaps Steel Plate? Although it looks a bit too fancy for just steel.

As for their helms, not a clue what that's supposed to be. :P

EDIT: Hmm wait just looked at the pic of steel armour, no way that's steel. Perhaps it's just one of the many new armours in Oblivion. Whatever it is, it looks pretty spiffy. ^^

What do we get for guessing correctly Vaanic?

Heh! Right now I don't think there can be a correct guess, unless you want to wait 4-6 months for the game to find out what it really is. And I aint gonna wait that long

The one who provides the most convincing guess as to what this is has the pleasure of having their guess quoted in the article. Mind you, to get that, it has to be a pretty good guess, based on designs/colour of the armour etc. I will also rename the title of the picture, to what the best guess thought it was. And of course your name will be mentioned, with "prestigious" in front of it or something like that. :)

  • 1 month later...

Could it be perhaps, "Lesser Daedric Armour"? In so far as.. it is standard Ebony Armour, but instead of being infused with the soul of a Powerful, Greater-Daedra, it is only infused with that of a lesser minion. This is pretty uncircumstantial, but considering the player-character will actually visit Oblivion, one could expect a greater range and variety of Daedra to be present? Thus perhaps giving potential for their to be an organised structure or heirachy between the powerful Daedra and the lesser Daedra. And thus, the chance for the lesser to be used to make a slightly lesser-quality armour then "Greater Daedric Armour".

If you look at the picture, you can clearly see that is DOES look Daedric, to an extent. (Also note that the NPC wielding the weapon is also wearing it as armour.) However, it seems to be less "red" and "glowing" and more solid. This could point to the fact that the soul infused in it has less potential than a Greater Soul.

Cheers,

Dave

The contenders in the screenshot are all wearing the same armor, with the cloth features dyed the same color -- Imperial red. These are uniformed troops of the Imperial legion.

Discarding the cuirass, which is just slightly out of place here (I'll get to that later), judging by the armor's non-conductive features and lack of coverage in places like the back of the leg, one can safely say that they are wearing medium armor. The texture and design is unmistakably that of chainmail, even bearing some faint resemblance to Imperial chain in Morrowind.

Operating under the assumption that the rest of the armor is Imperial chain, what their cuirass is made of is open to speculation:

  • It could be Imperial chain, like the rest of the armor. The pauldrons seem to match well enough (assuming that pauldrons as a seperate armor piece, unlike the Enchanting skill and alternative weapon paths, haven't been cut from the game).
  • It could be adamantium. The luster seems right enough, and it's built more solid than chain, but the skills they had to learn for dealing with the chain are preserved (that is, assuming that medium and heavy armor skills haven't been merged, like how daggers and claymores now fall under the same skill).

Then again, it could be that adamantium armor is an acceptable uniform for Imperial troops nowadays (Apelles Matius comes to mind), thus making my first evidence pointing to chain point to adamantium as well. The cloth features are on two pieces in particular, the greaves and helm, neither of which were very widely available in adamantium whilst in Morrowind. My second guess would have to be adamantium armor with Imperial chain greaves and coif.

The weapon, being of the same composition as an Oblivion portal, would seem to be bound. I don't know where you got mithril from. This is mithril.

Oh great.. thanks MB... there goes any chance of my post being acknowledged. *grumble*

edit.. Well I still stick by my opinion. It seems to me that the items, armour, etc, all display the pointy architecture, solid-ness, and patterns of Classic Daedric Armour.
