Why is there no topics on GOTY and Patch installation

Hey guys and gals, I have just repurchased Oblivion but this time I purchased GoTY. What amazes me is neither on this site nor on the official Elder Scrolls site does it say anything about "patches not needed if" or the like.

I mean isn't that a required to know piece of information?

I just tried installing the Official Shivering Ilse patch on my GOTY install and it barfed saying couldn't find the old file etc. So I am just going to assume that in GOTY that the patch is not needed at all. Would that be a correct assumption?

(Some "basis to start from information" would be good methinks for both Elder Scrolls and Nexus to add that simple little bit of slightly important information).....

I don't even know what's the difference between normal oblibion and goty one

GOTY simply has Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine added into it, just like the Morrowind GOTY came with Tribunal and Bloodwhatever.

I have posted that piece of information at least twice a week for the last year. I will repeat it for those who haven't gotten the word.

No official patch is needed if you install both Oblivion and Shivering Isles from the GOTY disk

However, if you install Oblivion but NOT SI, it will not be fully patched. Install both, then just ignore the SI part if you don't want to play it yet.

None of the other DLCs have included patches, so if you don't want them, just don't install them.

Really?

Article: How To Install Oblivion with Patches

Links to that article are also in the description of the patch download here at the Nexus.

Pinning a single topic can quickly become "too much" as the list can grow quite significantly. For a time, I was converting helpful / pinned topics into articles and creating a master pinned topic that pointed to those articles. But even a master posting cannot and should not contain a link to each and every tutorial. The whole point of pinned topics are to catch the eye of people regarding topics that are created on a regular basis which get answered over and over again...to hopefully curb the amount of posts when the community is new to the information.

I have not seen enough topics / questions asked about this that would warrant a dedicated pinning...I could be wrong, but that is my initial thought without actual research to qualify it.

The point is that many tutorials can now be found in the Article Database and that is where those that like to self-help should look first. The CS Wiki is also another good source for tutorials and reference material.
