Bben46,

I hate to break it to you not so gently, but I live in a port city housing about 15 million people, including 4 million refugees, and 5 million national and non-national immigrants.

Due to a low catagory three storm recently, almost two million people had to be relocated within the city, and the city was without power for 50+ hours and water for 120+ hour, and I don't mean sewerage, drinking water and clean water for personal usage.

I was a student intern 9 years ago, when my professor told me clearly that if the population of the city continues to grow at the same rate and consumption ratios do not decrees than the city is not going to survive the infrequent catagory 2-3 storm.

In the last four years, for the first time since 1906, has the city I live in seen consecutive years of catagory 3.

Do you think that catagory 3 would hit a desert city, even once in 7 years let alone 5 times in 4 years.

Humans have survived through 16 Ice Ages, the longest of them lasting over 1000 years, but more than 60% of the human population died. All of this was before the age of metals let alone nuclear footballs in the hands of mass murderers.

If anyone says we are all dead, then that person is a cowardly idiot, but rest assured that things are going wrong.

What's going wrong? the climate has never been stable, it's always changed. The difference now is governments see a way to make money through green taxes and the corporations a way to make more money selling us "green" stuff. Notice how they changed "global warming" to "climate change" when they got rumbled? We used to call climate change "weather" and not even governments in the UK would have dreamed of taxing the weather as they do now by calling it "climate change".

I disagree and proof is scientifically in past records gained through such as drilling for ice cores at the polar regions.

Yet more obvious proof has come more recently in video recordings showing not only great areas of ice falling into the sea but actual maps and recorded measurements showing that some of the biggest ice areas, ones that are very very old, have reduced by up to great proportions. One was reported to have almost halved. This is vast amounts of ice causing major changes in the ocean which in turn effect major ocean currents that in turn heavily effect weather and climate. Yes there have been changes in the past but the speed and size of current changes have even taken by surprise scientists who used to be told they were being 'doomsayers'.

Deserts are expanding, ice is melting, fertile soil is vanishing, selinity is growing, the population is expanding, fish stocks are vanishing as some large areas are now devoid of fish to net and so forth.

We can do something about it but firstly we have to accept that something bad is happening.

On Topic: Pfft! Humanity is just like the cockroach. We will survive, although our survival rate isn't as high as the cockroach.

Off Topic:

We have only been keeping climate records for the last 50 to 80 years. And even beyond 10 years ago these are spotty at best. In talking to older people - in their 80s and 90s, I have seen a pattern. I hear from them 'It dosn't seem as hot as when I was a kid, but we didn't have a thermometer either. and there is not as much snow most years, but in (fill in the years ) we didn't have snow either.'

However, even 100 years is not enough for a real trend to show. I remember 3 major and 5 minor Typhoons in one year where I lived in the late 50s, but today, even one is considered a sign of global warming.

The polar ice caps reveals all. Scientists (I lack the knowledge of the correct term for these people) take core samples from the ice and study it. The ice tells the story of the world just as dirt core samples. Thats where most of the legit information comes from.

Global Warming is a very real threat. Thanks to the media, governments and corporations it has become a feeding ground of greed. The government makes money off it through "green" taxes. Corporations make money off it by slapping the same crap with the "green" logo. The media make a fortune through tabloids, articles and headliners. That is what kills the real information is misinformation.

I'll leave on one note. There is a diagram that shoes the carbon change through thousands of years. It oscillates up and down. When the era of technology reigned in, we pushed the upward oscilation far beyond the norm. That is where concern chimes in.

*Yawns*

Ice Ages anyone? It's not the only climate change we have lived through. Especially with the technology we have now, if anything happens, we have ways to deal with it.

And here's a quote from a guy on another discussion of this:

earth = ~6 billion years old

human made pollution= ~500 years old

can we really have any effect on the world? NO

Source: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...30192407AAGOC7T

It doesn't need any more explaination than that.

Credible sources aren't found on answers.yahoo.com or hubpages.com.

Also, What I stated in my previous post was about how global wamring is real and how Media, Government and Corporatiosn turn it into a huge debacle(sp).

Regardless I can dig up 1000 papers showing global warming as a serious threat and 1000 papers showing it isn't. This is one of those topics that we won't know the real answer till it happens.

So why do you say that it is a real concern when you add that people with money/power turn it into a debacle? The statement in all honesty sounds like an oxy-moron. (I may have interpreted it wrong though)

I personally do not believe in global warming as much as I once did. Besides, how do we really know if there is such a thing as global warming occuring, as we've only recorded/averaged 100 or so years of weather on the planet (I think someone mentioned this earlier)? We have only those 100 years or less to make a judgement on about global warming, whereas, the world has been living and changing for billions of years.

It means that global warming exsists. Goverment, Coporations and the media use itt o feed their greed on top of turning it inot a huge debate.

Your age: 11 years (but considering that you still think Yahoo Answers is a "source", it seems a fair guess)

Number of man-hours spent on global warming research at this point: Millions

Are you really qualified to say anything at all about this issue? NO.

Actually, you know what? This goes for all of you, both pro and con. I only come on these Internets every two weeks or so, and this time around has been a complete waste. Not entertaining in the least. You can do better, Internets people. Stop thinking you can save humanity from itself and just post something even remotely trollable.

This.

Highly educated specialists around the world can't come to any firm conclusions on the issue, but every schmoe with internet access knows EXACTLY what the world's climate is doing and why.
