LE Staffs as conduits of power

Me and my friend were discussing idea and i was talking about how i dislike how staffs are usd in skyrim , my idea was that instead of staffs having powers of their own ETC throwing fireballs , they instead were a conduit for your normal spell , enhancing their power instead of having its own separate power but was not sure if this was possible to do? if so itd be amazing , it would actually make staffs appealing and useful in skyrim

I second this idea. The better the staff, the better the bonus (Apprentice --> Master). If you don't know the spell, you can't use the staff. Staffs that have special or unique effects, or cast spells that the player can't get, still have the usual effect but they level with the player. No need to touch staff charges too much, a focus that boosts your power should be costly.

You could make staves that when equipped gives you a new spell which is more powerful and costs less than the normal spell. It would probably be easier than your idea, but it would still work in the same way.
