Povuholo,

The Radeon 9500 PRO is not a bad video card. It's better than my 9600 SE. It should be fine for Morrowind. There are some easy guides for optimizing a computer for gaming and for the best Morrowind settings. Do some searching to find one. I'll bet you can make Morrowind run better if you do some maintenance and change some settings on your system. If you eventually want to upgrade, a Radeon 9700 PRO would probably fit your Dell.

E D,

I think you are pretty close in your guess on the minimum specs. I've heard that the minimum video card will be a Radeon 9600 or equivalent. If the rumors are true, my bottom-of-the-line 9600 SE may make playing Oblivion too buggy. I'll be forced to upgrade then.

RAM. What does it affect? What difference will you notice when first playing oblivion ( or any other game) with 512 MB, and then with 1024 MB? Will it be the framerate? Will it be the quality of graphics? Will it be the loading time when loading the game or a cell? A combination of them?

With my 512 MB i'l be hanging at the minimum requirements, and i'm wondering how it will affect my gameplay compared to those with the 1 giga.

You will notice a BIG jump in FPS performance, and will be able to run your games at higher graphics settings (provided you have a good card too). The load times will improve as well. However the biggest influence on load times tends to be the processor, I think.

For instance, on Everquest 2, with 1 stick of 512 I could only run it on absolute minimum graphics at 1024x768 resolution and I was STILL getting awful FPS, especially in highly populated areas. 1 stick of 512 later and I could take the settings up to mid-range with fine FPS, even when in highly populated areas (where before the FPS was 1-2). One more stick of 512 and I can run things near maximum, and even in highly populated areas, still score 15 FPS. This is with the GeForce 6800 GT card; with lesser cards the difference may not be as extreme.

But yeah. A stick of 512 is well worth the £30 investment.
