A Little Something We Call Halo Meeting Morrowind

Ok... I've read the Mod Project post thing... I'm gonna say it up and out loud, I'm making a Halo 2 mod for Morrowind!! I already have help with a landscape designer named Huon73 from MWSummit... ok here's the mod idea:

"There's a portal which the Dwemer have opened to a whole new "alien" race, they invaded, set up little encampments all around the island of Morrowind, it's your job to seal the portal off to this area, but first... you need some good supplies from a human encampment on a lonely island off the Sheogorad Coast Region."

 

Me and Huon basically need:

 

Race Modders ( basically 3 races to cover the quest, Human Flood, and the "alien" race )

Armor Modders ( for the Human and ( ah heck I'll just say it ) Covenant race, basically blue elite, gloss map textured armor, and rough marine and Spartan armor )

Weapon Modders ( guns, rockets, rifles, shotguns, etc. although they'll still act like crossbows and/or thrown darts )

Building Modders ( to do Earth, Covenant and the Forerunner structures )

Landscape Modders ( to make it look like there was an invasion )

Scripters for Vehicle Enablebility, not sure if that's a word... ( to actually ride vehicles in Morrowind instead of creatures )

 

We will also need people who know the Covenant structures, as well as Forerunner structures and Earth's Structures and Enviroments, which is exactly why this mod completly breaks lore and realism, so not many people may like having Halo 2 on Morrowind and that can be ok... besides my parents are agreeing to buy 3ds max for me and I can get straight to modding for the new plugin... as I have said me and Huon have already started working on the plugin. ( or project if you want to call it ) so basically this project is probably going to be one of the last projects for Morrowind, when Oblivion comes out I'll try to put it into Oblivion format. So, now we have positive and negative comments about this plugin, and i'm sure some people will join, I also know that, to some of you people, Halo 2 was a complete failure, but I'm going to probably bring it's popularity up or it may plummit some more... so you decide, there a no wrong answers. I also have some pics for the Race and Armor Modders, basically a conceptual art of a female Covenant and a diagram of a male Covenant, I am going to search halo.bungie.net to find some weapon, vehicle, and structure pics to help those who are willing to participate.

Allow me to be the voice of reason here. You're crazy, and you're really underestimating the amount of work you have to do. You and one other person doesn't even come close to being enough people to do this at any reasonable level of quality. And "by Oblivion" doesn't even come close to the amount of time it would take, think more like "by 2010".

 

 

Oh, and I see you're just now getting 3dsmax. Expect to spend about 3-6 months learning how to use it before you produce anything worth showing off or putting in a mod. You won't be getting "straight to modding", it takes a ton of time to learn 3d modeling.

Actually I'm taking a Engineering class at my high school, so I can handle the 3d modeling pogram called Rhino... the program's update allows me to animate now so it shouldn't be too hard, and I can think around problems, so try and to disprove me now... and of course people can and may call me crazy... but I just ignore them like they're nothing, I just go ahead and do, so I don't get put down by other people, and I sure as hell don't mind it either...

Hm, that changes it a bit. Depending on what you can do with Rhino, it'll be a somewhat shorter time to convert to 3dsmax and start producing something worth using. The main problem will be the different style of modeling used by the two programs. Rhino, if I remember right from a few years ago, is mainly a NURBS modeler. 3dsmax is poly-based, at least for low-poly game models like you'll want for Morrowind. You might be able to import static objects like weapons or buildings from Rhino, depending on how good the import ability is, but you'll be starting from the beginning on character modeling and animation.

 

The main problem is the unbelievably huge amount of work you've got. Honestly, I give you less than 10% odds of actually finishing this at any decent level of quality. Like most of these large projects, yours will probably just quietly die sometime in the near future from lack of interest.

 

 

 

Of course I'm not all cruel and heartless. I'm always open to comissions for 3d models, if you need someone. I need money to lure me away from my own projects, but if you're talking about buying 3dsmax, you probably have enough to pay for quite a few models. And I'm good at what I do, I'm used to high-poly scifi modeling, so low-poly game stuff like this should be really easy.

ok... well... 3ds max is selling for 250... my parent's are kinda in the dip of money... but I can make stuff from school send it through the fcps board and maybe it'll allow me to contact you through... though i'm not sure if my school has an importer, I'll have to check, btw I can model buildings, vehicles, and any other non-living thing, I just can't get the texture maps right... the school uses grsites.com to get their tex maps... I don't know any other sites, except for that one, and believe me... Their tex maps are horrible... so I could use some new tex map sites on the web, and I think I might only do one town ( say Ald-Ruhn or Sadrith Mora ) then people could replace all the Morrowind texes and insert the Halo texes ( textures for short ) or I could do it step-by-step, you know seperate mods for different people ( say the Race Modders could work on one mod, while the other teams could work on others, almost like a simultaneous task, instead of heaping it all into one plugin, it could be done faster ) you and I could do all the non-living modeling, Huon could do all of the Landscaping, and we three could probably get some more people to make the work even faster... I'd say if we get enough people it could be done in like a week, maybe 3... or more I'm just guessing time periods here.

Where did you find that deal? The cheapest I've ever seen it is an educational discount for $500ish. If that's a legitimate source, not some scam (I wouldn't be surprised if it is), get it, you'll never find a lower price.

Welcome to the fun of high-quality 3d work. Finding quality textures is really hard, most of the good stuff costs money. So I'd suggest either learning how to paint them by hand or getting a good digital camera to make photo-based textures.

I thought you just said you don't have the extra money to pay me? I wasn't offering to work for free. Halo doesn't interest me, and I have lots of my own projects to work on. But I always need money, and am always willing to take comissions to get it, even if the project isn't something I'd do just for fun.

 

I'd say if we get enough people it could be done in like a week, maybe 3... or more I'm just guessing time periods here.

 

You're right about just guessing. There's no way you're getting this done at a decent level of quality within a week. Not a chance, with the amount of stuff you want to do. Just doing the planning for a project like that would take you a lot longer than a week.

Google.com, search for 3ds max, it should be in there... that's what my dad says the price is.

It's through the school servers, I live in Fairfax, VA, and since then the Board of Education is getting more and more retarded, it's starting to get harder and harder to contact anyone through any forum without having to get blocked out by Trend ( school's f'en program blocker ) so now I have to do it through the school servers. In this case my student ID network drive, so basically I can't just send anything I have to send to blackboard.com, retrieve the saves, and then E-mail it through AOL or direct E-Mail contact ( The Firewall my dad installed is like a house shield, so I can't send anything out, I can only recieve mail )

heh... thanks... but if we ( meaning the team ) COULD actually persuade ( or get ) some more modders, or heck maybe some Halo 2 fans to d-load or buy 3ds max they would probably be extremely happy and would want to play Morrowind some more... heh... I could also download the free trial of Rhino, of course if you bought Rhino, it would cost over 1500... I guess it comes from a University, or a college

And mspaint doesn't count. I'm talking about photoshop-level painting, a lot more complex stuff than mspaint can even dream of doing.

Of course it's a career. How do you think all those movie effects get done? Or the models used in games? At least I'm assuming that was a typo for "modeling"... if you really meant modding, no, it's not a career.

 

The reason I'm offering to work for a fee is I'm offering work by comission, like many artists do. You want art, so you find an artist and pay them to do it. You're paying me to spend a lot of my time doing a project that I wouldn't otherwise be interested in or have time for.

I'm not sure you understand what I'm saying. Forget the idea of getting random people to buy 3dsmax, even if they have the natural art talent needed, just learning the software and 3d modeling in general takes months of effort. And even if you have a team of experts, what you're talking about isn't simple. If you want it done to a decent level of quality that anyone will want to play, you're going to need a lot more time. Think of a year as a somewhat optimistic goal.

I did download photo-shop once, but then again I didn't really understand how to use it. ( I think I downloaded it when I was 13 or 14 ) well... that's another post-reply down the drain, I just can't seem to find ANY modders that could actually DO a friggin project for someone else ( for free ) and the guy/gal who came up with it could also help them, like an apprentice, anyways, I'll have to think about this tomorrow, and i'm wondering how much this will cost, and I could assuredly do this project on my own for a couple of weeks at school, so that means I have to stay after school to do this and i can do things pretty fast, i know how to loft, extrude, union all kinds of different shapes so I'll probably be doing the races, weapons, buildings, and landscaping all by myself, and maybe huon as well, and lastly I should re-download photoshop, unless you know the URL... ( check this, my dad has found out the actual price and the student price, the student price for 3ds max is selling for 200 and the actual price... well lets just say it's 3000 to get a CD from them... So now my family will be saving up big for the student price, it only lasts a year though ( which sux :P ) and I just wish that every modder didn't have a fee or comissions for someone to do the mods, and for those who can't mod or don't have 3ds max on their comp, where is the compassion? )

heh... I tried to look up 3ds max on eBay.com... didn't turn out quite as I had hoped, but then again there were some good bargains on other modeling programs including max 7 and 7.5, as well as a lot of DVD training videos... oh well... guess I'm gonna have to buy the student price for 3ds...
