Why Am I Experiencing CTDs?

@Chan: Actually, I have all of the correct Skyre patches. Everything changed in the past couple of weeks, as Hothtrooper updated Immersive Armors to v7, and that third party now handles all the newer SkyRe patches. In the description of the SkyRe patches, you'll see it indicated that balbor's esps shouldn't be installed anymore. Thanks for chiming in though, Chan.

@Kitty: I don't see any conflicts in device manager. The only thing listed under "Display Adapters" is my GTX 660.

When you say that the SkyRe patches don't need Balbor anymore, I think you meant this set of patches: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29375/?

I linked you to a different set which patches other stuff: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48629/?

For example, that set which does not require Balbour's does not patch for Daedric Dawnbreaker, but the one in the latter link does. Some of your mods if I look correctly aren't patched by the first set.

Hey Chan,

Sorry for the confusion. I meant this one here. <-- This one is specified as obsolete now.

I did actually download Xathra's new set of patches and selected all the options that applied (WAFR, IA7, IW1.5, etc...). BOSS doesn't really sort them properly, so that copy/paste is not in order as the Bashed Patch and Dual Sheath Redux are (of course) supposed to be at the bottom of the load order. But, you should see the Pre-Reproccer, Reproccer, and Post-Reproccer listed. When clicking on those I can see the correct masters showing that the reproccer is working properly - Or, at least I think it is. :P

Is there an esp you see missing?

regardless, Kitty sees a Hardware discrepancy, and I'll of course need to address that first before moving forward with anything software related.

One thing that I happen to notice that was missing from your load order, assuming your using Immersive Armors v7 is..... Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp ....should be loaded before Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.esp. Unless for some reason unknown to me you intentionally omitted it.

Thanks Cody.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I was at work at the time of your post, and I wanted to see for myself why that esp wasn't on the list.

BOSS does not recognize Armor Ecksstra.esp yet, so it's not listed because it's in the unrecognized category. However, I do have it loading AFTER Immersive Armors 7. Are you sure it it comes before that in the load order? When I click on it, it doesn't show it requires Immersive Armor as it's master, but it also says it's "Eckstraa textures for Immersive Armors v7". I thought it should come after as a result. Was I wrong?

@ Kitty. Just backed up my files. But, I wanted to let you know the Graphics Card you listed is not my Graphics Card. My card is this one...

Not sure if that changes anything. Going to get to work following your directions. If the different Graphics card changes anything, please let me know. :)

Thank you, Cody. I've updated my load order. You can never read too carefully huh? As much as I thought I was being careful, I managed to miss that one easily, which has me worried that Chan may be correct that I might be missing esps for SkyRe as well. I'll have to review all the mods and make sure I didn't make any further mistakes. I certainly don't want to have to scrap another 160 hour save down the road. It will crush me.

@Kitty:

I followed your instruction and did saw a WIndows update and install of Intel's onboard HD graphics. I tried to run my Skyrim with that, and got a CTD the moment I pressed "New". I tried again, and got the infamous infinite loading screen. I also spotted a point in your highlighted text that I should enable Extreme Memory and did that as well.

After installing the updates, I used my backed up copy of SKyrim, put the card back in, and performed Vurts Stress test for approximately 10 minutes (double the time he recommends) and VIOLA! I'm CTD free!!!

I did speak to my IT guys at work who happen to be PC Gamers, and was advised to update the BIOS for my graphics card. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that, and I understood that if I don't know what I'm doing, I can break things. So, I'm gonna leave that alone for now.

Provided Vurt's stress test is trust worthy, and I get through some decent play time, I would like to permanently credit you in all Skyrim related YouTube videos I make moving forward. After all, without you, I would have given up. So, please provide me with the info on how you would like to be credited.

Also, would you mind continuing to follow this thread should I continue to encounter CTDs?

Thanks so much everyone! With what I've learned here, I'll be sure to pay it forward.

Approved and acknowledged. I am Kitty Balloffun...fallout 3 Vanilla Girl. Presently Head of the Fallout 3 Remastered Teams ongoing Testing and revising.

I don't mind at all, but you are the OP here, not I so it's your choice as it always has been. being better informed goes a long way, making good decisions is the fastest way to revel in the works produced. MY job as it was assigned to me was to make sure, all of you have fun, no matter the cost. Getting you the answers you need carefully thought out is paramount to success.

My alternative Is seeking out a power house of a machine, with the right (persons) that follow directions well to test very hard and mean files I have made. these files are just coded files, no textures or mesh file. just plugins, but old time machines won't handle them, that's a given. The goal here for me? is to make both you and every one happy, give some thing back in some way. IF the testing is done properly, and we can get software fixes from it. then we have made an accomplishment to that end.

As an example of what to be expected from the beta teams testers capability and the rigs they are to use.

so , you see, I do have a vested interest in this.

on another note: the opening post you listed a card name. "GTX 660 Ti GPU", and that led me to asus web site. the problem with companies and hardware is every one steals from every one else, borrows tech, integrates it , a bit here , a byte there and so forth.

GV-N66TWF2-2GD" This card is not the same, no, by far not. hmm it has Cuda built in.

Tamper not any more with anything in the extended cards software. This is as close to a PS3 /xbox tech your going to get with that rig.

now you have the support software running. as with the game requiring DX and a OS to operate, Steam to provide code, so does your equipment require things too. this was what was missing.

you are not alone, thousands of users here are in that same boat, just don't know it.

  • System power supply requirement: 450Wthis is for that card
  • Do not forget the motherboards requirements. IF you do not have enough power for both, you will heat things up due to resistance/lack of supply. During fleeting moments in battle , the system/ game will spool up and go ver that power limit, if you have enough to cover the spike, you will never crash due to lacjk of power.

yes, you can have Two Pwats n a single rig, Big gamers do all sorts of crazy things.

your welcome.

  • 2 weeks later...

I couldn't be any angrier / frustrated right now.

I was getting infrequent CTDs a week after this posting, and removed all SkyTEST related mods to resolve that. I took a two week break after working so hard on it since NOvember.

I finally had a night free to just kick back, relax and play the modded game.

When booting the PC, the graphics card said there was a new driver update. I performed that update, restarted the PC, and when loading up Skyrim, I was told it was going to detect my hardware as if the ini wasn't there to tell it my preferences. Knowing this would have reset the ini, replaced them with my back ups, and when trying to launch the game, AGAIN I got the message. It will not let me use my ini back ups without that message.

I figured maybe that message isn't changing anything, so I'll just start playing and see how it goes, and now all kinds of freezes and CTDs occur within minutes.

Is this the norm experience for people who mod their games? SHould I be having this much trouble with the rig I invested nearly $1000 on? Kitty? Anyone? At this point, I'm ready to cut my losses and just abandon the PC Gaming altogether. I haven't been able to just relax and enjoy a modded Skyrim, and I've been trying for 5 months now.

Seriously, today was the first time I wept in nearly a decade, and to say it was over a game, is remarkably sad. :(

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
