charlie1239
I played oblivion a couple of months ago but then i stopped and uninstalled everything (all mods/patches/obse/obmm) but now im starting to play it again. When i downloaded obmm again it says im a limited user. A couple of months ago it said that too but i remember i changed some sort of security setting because im using vista and it worked fine. I read what to change in obmm's read me but i cant find it and now i dont know what i am suppose to change to make it work to its full extent again. All i can remember is there was a box with a hole bunch of settings and i clicked on of the checkboxes off. If someone knows what to do please help me! pointlessness
You have to run it as an admin google is your friend
chuckskyline
To answer the question... You can either A) turn off Vista's UAC (that annoying thing that ask you if you approve when you install something....are you sure you want to do this? that yeah.. ) B) Left Click, properties, click run as admin. LHammonds
You'd be far better off uninstalling it and re-installing Oblivion to a folder OTHER THAN the default under C:\Program Files. I'd recommend something like C:\Games\Oblivion This would avoid all kinds of problems you'd have (more than just that annoying popup) and still retain your UAC security feature. I would also recommend never installing a program/game to the C:\Program Files if you think that you'd ever have any "data" files being used under that folder. If you have a program where you never touch or look at the program folder, no problem. But for software like Blender, Oblivion and Fallout 3, you will be wise to install them elsewhere. LHammondsI will consider doing this but i dont have a games folder in my C;\ hardrive place. Also i figured out how to turn of uac so i can use obmm ( but i will still use your advice) But now i have a new problem....Oblivion wont even start anymore I reinstalled it twice and everytime i click play (with no mods enabled or any mods at all for that matter) it always loads up the bethesda softworks thing then it crashes plz help. Thanks
chuckskyline
Make a Game folder in your C:/ drive. Simple as that.. As far as Oblivion crashing. Make sure you have all the drivers updated Oblivion can be kinda screwy with drivers. Also when you go and delete oblivion make sure its fully deleted, I noticed with mine if I use the uninstaller it does not delete the entire program. Go to your directory, C:-program files-Beth Soft-.. and look to see if oblivion is still there if it is, just delete it. If you just "uninstall it" the data folder will stay there and all of the mods will still be in there. So make sure it is gone. Try also getting the patch, 2.014, and the unofficial patch (which is kinda like a mod). Vista really hates this game, trust me it does. I've been using weocps, and it has helped a lot. charlie1239
I reinstalled the game in a different folder C:\games and i patched it but it still isnt working. Then i downloaded weocps but that didnt work either. i tryed starting it with obse too but that still didnt work....so if you have any more ideas please post them. Also i forgot to mention about 2 months ago I restored my computer back to factory settings(which delets every file on my computer) due to a virus....but i reinstalled everything i lost i was wondering if this had any effect on the game crashing.
