Unexplainable FPS-behaviour

Hey guys!

I tried to find a solution to my ongoing fps problems, but I just got more and more confused along the way. Im gonna give you my hardware, a screenshot of my mods and a list of what I tried to do so far. Here we go:

 

CPU:: AMD Phenom X2 955 BE, 4x 3,6 Ghz

GPU: (ASUS) AMD HD 7870 @1100Mhz, 2 GB DDR5@1250Mhz

RAM: 4 GB DDR3

All of my HDDs are pretty full, but apart from that my PC's running just fine.

 

Addons:

 

 

Game Version is 1.3.10, the game is running on 1680x1050, Ultra, 4xSSAA, Shadows on high and iMinGrassSize=30, with fps varying between 20 and 50.

 

At first I had all the 4k HD-Textures and 8xSSAA, so I switched to 2k and 4xSSAA, I even tried 4xMSAA in the end. All to no effect. SkyBoost helped a little, but not too much, because its not like I'm seeing a diashow! When the game starts, for the first minutes, it all goes as it's supposed to: High fps, smooth experience.

Later on, and increasingly so, the fps go lower and lower (no lower than 25 though, normally) and I get something I can only describe as "hiccups".

These little freezes (which last less than 1/10s, but are noticable of course) occur at any framerate at all. So no matter if I'm playing at 60fps or at 20, the game still feels laggy because of them. Again: This only occurs a few minutes into the game, not directly after startup! Even at only 25fps a game is not supposed to look like this..

VRam never reaches the capacity of my card, normal RAM is just above 2GB.

In rooms/dungeons my FPS are high with a high GPU-usage. Outside, both are considerably lower. GPU usage is no higher than 40% there. Hiccups occur in both places though, even inside at 60fps.

 

Does anyone here have any idea where this could come from? Any bad experience with one of the plugins I'm using? Are the lo fps and the hiccups connected somehow? The game is just no fun at all like this.

If nothing helps I'll have to clear some disk space up, install from scratch and update to the latest version, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.

New obversavtion:

It lags/stutters much more in the outside world than in dungeons/houses etc! Even if I'm inside a visually unremarkable building/ruin (located in the outside world, not instanced like a real dungeon/store/inn) and cant actually see anything thats going on outside, the game behaves exactly like it does when Im standing on a mountaintop or running through a field.

This tells me that what Im seeing on the screen(=GPU) isnt whats important here.

Still, the hiccups also happen in dungeons, but they're less disturbing there.

 

First five minutes are PERFECT, after that time the described problems appear.

Thank you for your reply, but as I said in the entry post, switching to MSAA didnt change a thing. Nor did disabling AA altogether. The main problems are litte "hiccups", that occur at any FPS rate, especially in the outside world. See entry post and my last one for detailed problem description.

 

EDIT:

I think I got it. I disabled all addons and then succesively activated them again. Climates of Tamriel seems to be the culprit :) FPS stable at 60 now. Im rather optimistic this time, bc the effects lasted for during my whole session of >60 min. Im gonna confirm this in the next hours, afterwards Im gonna check out ENB.. Can you suggest another weather mod that might run better with patch 1.4 (=V. 13.10)?

None, 90% of the mods on the Nexus will make problems on a two years old game version.

 

And FYI, the reason for your frame drops is the combination of abusing the processor and abusing the card. You have a 10% overclock on an already aging CPU that barely holds as-is, load it up with extra crap to process (like weather) and the whole thing crumbles. As for the graphics card, that thing on your resolution is the equivalent of a 7950 on 1080p, a decent card unless you go piling up graphics mods. If you want stable 60FPS with graphics mods, you'll need new hardware, simple as that.

 

Also, update your game. Newer patches bring multithreading support and script processing performance increases that can help that poor Phenom keep up with what you're throwing at it, updates are there for a reason, you know.
