Can't save, can't wait, can't enter most buildings

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Whenever I try saving, waiting, or entering just about any building with a door it just crashes my fallout 3. I tried everything. I did a system restore, I ran it on different compatabilities such as Windows XP, and it always results in the same thing. Crashing.

Any help that can be offered that doesn't involve open heart surgery on my copy of Fallout 3 would be very much appreciated.

Edit: I found a fix. For those with my problem, run the launcher and any shortcuts you may have as windows 2000. It might crash the first time on startup but try a few times. Eventually you will be able to save, load, wait, etc.

Edit #2: Never mind. It still crashes after a while. Works for about 30 minutes and starts crashing all over again.

Does anyone know a permanent fix? If so, please post it here, so others may also use it.

Fallout 3 crashing *IS NOT* an issue with Vista itself. It's really starting to get irritating to see people constantly using Vista as a scapegoat for matters. I run Fallout 3 on Vista and have had no problems whatsoever except with Operation Anchorage DLC.

As for your issue at hand, please tell us your system specs, aswell as video card driver versions.

Ok now I found the culprit. You need to load your newest save a second time. For example, when I start my game up, and click continue, I load my last save. Then I load again, and I'm able to save, wait, etc.

Note that you must do this EVERY time that you launch FO3, until someone finds a permanent fix for this.

The problem is that when the game tries to auto-save it crashes.

When you start playing, load the game you want, open up the console, click yourself, type kill. By doing this the game loads itself and you can continue playing after suiciding without crashes when auto-saving on zoning.

Works for me atleast...

You can try this tool: FO3Edit

You can start the .exe from anywhere you want. But foremost you have to rename it to "FO3masterupdate" then run it once.

Check the messages at the end to see if any kind of plugin makes a problem, but usually they don't.

This helped for me after installing the 1.5 Patch and playing with a lot of mods. I had the same problem as you. Try it out.
