JohnnyG118
Hello everyone. I'm no stranger to mods from an installation and usage standpoint, but I don't have much experience with making them myself. I have a general understanding of the creation kit and how to use it - I routinely tweak existing mods to tailor stats etc. to my preference. I have a question regarding armor/clothing and how the game / creation kit understands the equipment slotting. For example:I have a mod that has stockings and legwear, all coded as [Tail] slot. I would like to change this to [Amulet] or [Ring], as I have another piece of gear that uses the tail slot that I want to wear at the same time. I understand how to go into the kit, open the item, and change the slot where it is equipped. However, when I launch the game and try to equip the item, I either see nothing (no item visually equips, even though the enchantment and stat boosts are there), or sometimes I start getting really strange shadowing and other errors on my character. I'm assuming this has to do with the mesh files and how they're read against the body and skin texture files, but I'm not sure. I have this sense that there's some really easy fix that I'm missing. Hopefully that wasn't too much exposition. TL;DR - can I use the creation kit to quickly reassign armor and clothing to alternative equipment slots. Legotrash
Are you using a mod that allows the player to wear more than two rings or more than one amulet? I'm asking because from what you've said it seems that you do and I've read that the extra equipment will not appear visually.
JohnnyG118
Actually no, I am not using any such mod. I am confused about this whole issue because (in the example I provided with the stockings), they are currently assigned to the tail slot. They are not considered lower legs (where greaves or pants normally would be), and I theoretically COULD equip both the stockings and a set of armored greaves or something. It would clip and not look correct, but it would function. There is no reason that I can think of why changing the usage slot from Tail to Amulet would have this sort of bizarre effect. With some sets of stockings there is no visual change - the item equips (I can see the armor boost and any associated enchantment effect), but I still see bare legs, or pants, or whatever else. The stockings just aren't there. Or sometimes when I equip them they -do- appear, but they're all dark and messed up, with in-game lighting not falling on them properly. Lanceor
Many armour types hide amulets when worn, and most gloves/gauntlets hide rings. Do the stockings appear when you unequip your armor/gloves? Possible side effect: invisible body or invisible hands. If that's the cause, you may need to make custom armour that doesn't have the hide amulet/hide rings box ticked.
JohnnyG118
I was able to move the stockings to Amulet successfully, but not to Left Ring or Right Ring. I suppose that will do for the time being; as far as I can tell though there was no reason why they couldn't have received ring slots.
Deleted3619564User
Hi, you are speaking about the "Creation Kit" but i supposed you are meaning the "construction set", because the creation kit is for Skyrim. However when you set a slot in the CS, it is the in-game slot, but the "real" skeleton nodes are cabled into the .nif file. If you want to change the "place" where an object is linked you need to change the mesh. If you want to change simply the slot, you can tell CS to set the object onto a slot, but if that slot is busy or reserved (like rings) or is hidden (as Lanceor said), the mesh is not visible. DrakeTheDragon
In this case it is well worth it to keep in mind that for some reason items in the 'Ring' slots will only render when they're 'Armor'. Clothing-type Rings stay invisible. Don't ask me why though. Just ran into this brickwall myself one time.
