tiggerdyret
Hey Guys. Tomorrow I'm gonna pickup my new ssd hard disc and of cause I'll need to install windows on it and format my old drive for a clean setup. What I want to know is, if it is possible to backup my fallout game with all the installed mods and saves, and extract it to the ssd drive without any risks. I've used weeks tweaking and testing and finally seem to have stable game with a 40 hours save file and the perfect look and gameplay. 1. Is it possible to make a seamless backup for my fallout game on a new windows install, without any risks of having to reinstall my game and mods?2. How do you recommend I go about doing it? Should I just install windows to the new drive and move the files before formatting the old or should i save it on a external drive?3. Is it possible to save the info from fomm and Wrye Flash to the ssd drive, but move the mod folders on my hdd drive (to save space and reduce the heavy task for the ssd). If so how? If there are any risks I might just wait till I'm done with this playthrough, but if I know myself right I'll just rush through the game without enjoying it fully. Thanks :)
KimberJ
Yes, but only the mods... So what you do is grab the data folder, but without the FO3 data, gee you can uninstall FO3 an just go back an drop what is left into a .rar Put that on disc, but don't forget to write down the load order by typing it inside a notepad file readme for the .bak backup that you wish to create......... Programing, really guys, learn to speak digital code already, it's the only thing you can use on the Internet now, because the money has now taken freedom from the system, so if you are smart enough to read computer code, then yes, you can speak here freely, don't worry though, you are protected here by the safety net of Nexus.... tiggerdyret
Thanks. What is a .bak backup? :) If you've got a link to a tutorial I'm eager to learn.
KimberJ
Yes a .bak is a windows file that you changed the file format, like .jpg or .esm .esp, .bmp .mp4 the list goes on an on. In this case you just changed the name to something with BAK in it then put .bak at the end, this takes it off the table an is a practice with backups used as slang terms for boring computer work, admin work, stuff you do because your boss doesn't do that for you. Putting it into a .rar compressed it, but the name is set automatically because it's programed like that. I don't create backups I create the games that you play, we don't use backups, data is useless like water we let run down the drain, because we are setting the container an gathering water to give to you. So set your disc drives to erase everything instead of the recycle bin because we don't use that either, when something is deleted it's gone, *ahem* On your terminal it's set up to protect you from breaking it. We don't have to worry about that. It's built to be broken, so that's the task. We work so hard because we want the computer to break, because it needs to be built tough to take copy pasting in 32 trees at a time on hillsides or putting War into the engine, as well as generating heat, get it hot an about to melt, it breaks the whole computer not just the game, we need to know these things for art, even the art. Break it, fix it later. It's not like paper, you can work on paper an stack it up, it's data 0's an 1's, what we want to do is run billions of them an crash it together.
