Blame It On The Rain Ya Yea

I was wondering......I see that the rain in Morrowind falls through stuff. For example when standing in a tunnel in Vivic rain falls through the roof above me. Is this just a limitation of the graphics engine or could the programmers have made the rain stop at roofs and such?

Yep annoying...

Hmm how to explain... The rain effect is just part of the environment, like fog, and it doesn't really move or collide with anything, it's just an effect.

yep true.

if all the rain pieces were individual objects then it could probably be done.

but just imagine how laggy that wud make the game + how long and tedious that would be

Yea and we don't need morrowind with any more lag  Couldn't you set the rain as like a switch so when certain conditions are right the switch is turned on. When the switch is turned on the rain falls. As it is falling it checks for certain varibles. These varibles being solid objects. Once it has detected it, the rain will fall but only to the height that the varble assigns. You could have the rain activated by a big switch and each part of the rain is made up of smaller parts, kind of like sheets. Just an idea that could possibly happen. <by the way i have NO experiance with scripting etc in TESC :D >

No, as I tried to explain, that doesn't work, since rain doesn't "fall" in morrowind, it just IS... The only thing that could be done is manually making areas where there will be no rain effects. But that has to be done for each individual location. Which is a lot of work, and will by itself cause a lot of lag.

Indeed, the rain "is." There's no better way to describe it -- but I guess that you can assume that it's Lord Vivec/Lady Almalexia/Sotha Sil's powers ensuring that the whole ground gets rained on. Heck, the weather's pretty funny -- I chuckled when I figured out that (and I'm fairly certain) all of Mournhold is in an interior cell, with scripting to allow for weather. :-)
