hoofhearted4
so im ready to upgrade my current 120gb Crucual M4 to a 500gb ssd. im debating between the 480gb Crucial M500 or the 500gb Samsung EVO. is there much of a difference between these two? am i going to notice? im leaning towards the M500 just because i already have a Cruicial and ive had 0 problems. i googled a few quick comparisions and it was about 50/50 in conclusions.but i wanted to pop in here and get a quick feedback before i purchase. im ready to buy ASAP. thanks all Edited March 4, 2014 by hoofhearted4
FMod
840 Evo is a TLC drive, M500 is a MLC drive.Performance-wise they're not far apart with Samsung enjoying a lead. In practice it's not likely to make a difference. I'd probably pick M500 for the extra endurance of MLC flash over TLC. But if your particular usage scenario implies small write load, as common for drives with no OS and no caching files on them, it won't matter, making the extra bit of performance and usable capacity preferable. So as an only or primary drive M500, as a second or third drive 840.
hoofhearted4
itll be primary with OS (or two, since ill have the space to mess with it) as well as basically all non Steam games i own haha. thanks for your input FMod, once again, you were the person i wanted to hear from! will be purchasing tonight i think. Thor.
I have both Crucial and the 840, i can tell you which is better. The samsung wins. check my specs in spoiler form  Skyrim performance benchmark the samsung is king, it'll mow it down without any load lag at all. Edited March 8, 2014 by Thor. hoofhearted4
thats a lot of SSDs. ill be giving the one i currently have to my mom for her PC. i have 2.5tb of storage so i dont need the extra 120gb lol. i dont play Skyrim, and idrc about an unnoticeable difference in load times. i was really asking in case either one was known to have problems, or if firmware made a difference. when it comes to buying products, i really could care less about benchmarks, as 9 times out of 10, when it comes to the top gizmos, in real life performance, the difference is negligible. it comes down to which ones are known to perform better longer, hardware stability, etc. thanks for your input Thor, even though i already bought my SSD, it could very well help someone else in the future.
