roquefort
There was a crazy pre-war fad for doing this >>>>> http://www.interestingideas.com/out/capgal1.htm  ..which took over from the yo-yo craze, and the intervention of war meant that the hula-hoop craze never happened. Seriously though, how come there are still caps lying around all over even though they've now become money?
RidgeR5
I see nothing wrong with stashing bottle caps... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/89Sunbird/d8418550.jpg
devdrago12
Lol someone needs to make a mod out of what PerroLoco53218 just said, like a hidden nuka cola factory/vault. (I know a factory already exists) I can't find a better possible explaination, he took every idea scrap I might've remotely had and made a genious story, maybie even a mod down the road. Plus, people started using it as currency so caps are in containers too.... anyway- grats!
Rabbit1251
Back in the 1980's an urban legend got started that saving aluminum can pull tabs could be redeemed to help cure cancer. Generous people started hoarding pull tabs all over the place to be turned in. After some time the word got out to the general public that this was only a rumour or prank and that the pull tabs were worth next to nothing. People started making belts and shirts from their prized collections. I think that a similar thing happened with box tops. Perhaps someone started just such a prank with bottle caps and people went wild once again with it. That would be my guess. Rabbit
PerroLoco53218
heh,heh... There is a secret Executive Vault buried 100 meters under the Capitol Wasteland NukaCola bottling facility, unfortunately no one knows where the secret entrance is located. xTrogdorx
It's quite possible that the caps were put there after the war and the people who put them there are simply not present when you enter the picture. People would simply move in to structures that are still left standing and inhabit them, collecting the various odd items and leaving caps in desks and file cabinets. I can't think of any places that have been completely untouched by anyone since the war.
devdrago12
Yeah, the nuka cola corp. wanted to take the economy secretly, and already have. No one even knows they rule, and enclave and BOS are duking it out while the weaken. Meanwhile hidden deep below the factory, (hidden) is a rich iron deposit, near where the CEO vault of nuka cola is, so they can still make bottle caps. Also, having perfected nuka cola clear so as to brainwash every citizen of the wasteland to do their dirty work. At least, that would be my addition.(plus mor nukalurks.) theLeeHarvey
That would be a cool idea for a mod. A hidden Nuka-cola CEO vault with working machinery that is still churning out bottle caps at an astounding rate in order to increase inflation. That would account for all the caps in the wasteland and the fact that even with a barter skill of 100, you still get hosed by vendors, lol. PerroLoco53218
I guess you didn't get the memo about the use of slave labor in the secret underground NukaCola bottle cap manufactory. During the bleak days before 2077, former Vice President "Rick" Cheney, who was already more than 100 years old at the time, had his brain implanted into a purpose built RoboCo RoboBrain. Just prior to this, Cheney became CEO of the NukaCola Corporation. Once his brain was implanted into the RoboBrain 'bot, he was effectively a cyborg & relatively safe from the coming nuclear Armageddon, which he had helped to precipitate to increase sales of NukaCola to an increasingly anxiety driven populace. Of course, as I've mentioned before in the months preceding the war, it wasn't uncommon for people to sell their children to slavers in order to support their NukaCola addiction. Cheney of course, anticipated this. As many of us now know, Cheney was a great admirer of German efficiency and in particular the effective use to which the Minister of Armaments and War Production for the Third Reich, Albert Speer employed forced labor brigades to build many underground factories. Needless to say, the secret underground NukaCola bottle cap factory was constructed by slave labor. Today NukaCola CEO Cheney insists that his subordinates refer to him as "Rick" Himmler but otherwise he's much unchanged from his days as U.S. Vice President. Now well over 330 years old (Cheney was born in 1941) the cyberneticly enhanced former Vice-President continues to direct world-wide NukaCola operations from his secret, undisclosed location beneath the ruins of Washington. He personally oversees the purchase of all new slaves and is said to prefer young, nubile women as bottle cap factory workers. It's been reported that Cheney is equipped with some sort of electro-mechanical, non-reproductive pleasure organ though this cannot be confirmed at this time.
