devinpatterson
Place holder for the post hoover dam battle Legion faction ending. Just a few quick notes, I'll edit it later. With the occupation will come new legion troops so I thought I'd contact some of the authors that have expanded the faction and see if we can use their assets. If not I'll just make them myself. A little more variety and some "tribal" (like our modern celtic based tats), will be a good place to start. pic; http://tattoo-collection.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Tribal-tattoo-designs-and-meanings-for-women-404.jpg They're pretty easy because we just throw them on the outfits model, since we don't really have to worry about NPC's changing outfits for 99% of them. devinpatterson
Did not realize that was a gargantuan rez pic, here's a smaller one/better proportioned one, in the same style. Red, black and a mix would look good on legion types. Pic; http://www.cuded.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/tribal-tattoo600_498.jpg This will be in stark contrast to NCR tats which could be service related, "mom" "love betty" type stuff. devinpatterson
Re: Our previous Legate conversation But specifically on the term Legate you could historically have more than one. There was one for each major region back in the Roman empire, and Caesar *should* be aware of this (it's not an obscure fact especially for a anthropologists). So we should keep in mind the possibility of at least a legate for the east where the legion also has an active (if I'v read the wiki correctly) campaign of expansion. They seem to be very busy in the 4 corner states, not sure about the other compass points I believe that while Caesar based the Legion on the old Roman empire, I'm sure that he made some changes along the way. Even though there were multiple Legates historically I believe that ending more Legates to the game would cheapen the position itself. We knew that the first Legate was Joshua who was also a founding member which to me indicate the position of Legate being given the right hand man. While it may be possible to see a new Legate if Caesar and Lanius were killed I just don't think it would be a good idea to add more Legates in a Legion version. I'll go into the Legion more over in the Legion thread that you've put up. I'll have another look into the Legion endings on the wiki. I have to run, so unfortunately this will be a bit quick. But I'm DD tonight so maybe I can expand a bit on the post in the early hours of the morning. But essentially I think a 2nd Legate would be good for a few reasons; *If all the chain of command in the Mojave have been wiped out, it prevents *immediate* splintering, so that the legion is still a formidable force to continue to battle. And allows us to have a central figure for our story (he would much like days of old be quickly crowned Ceasar). This could also bring in new story elements as the new Caesar may draw troops back to legion held areas once the player begins to penetrate them. These may bring additional partially assimilated tribes with new visual styles and combat techniques into the fray. *I believe the Legion is (my opinion, havn't verified this in the wiki yet) conquering area on many fronts. While the Mojave has been a stalemate for them for quite a while, I think they have been pushing north, east and (possibly) south. The north push (salt lake city) in some areas might be close enough for Caesar to manage, but as you conquer further and further out, distancing yourself from Caesars location in the Mojave, one would have to delegate power to trusted officers on teh other fronts. I don't believe those fronts are as high a priority as the Mojave (due to the threat of the NCR), but I don't think the Legion can stand still when it's whole culture and reason for existence is based on warfare. So I believe there has to be a legate to cover the east (at least in function if not in actual name).
devinpatterson
Two quick half formed thoughts; It'd be nice to get this chariot running. I think I might have some ideas on how to do it; Pic; http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u404/devinlpatterson/FONV%20Mods-works%20in%20progress/LegionSmall_zpsbc614b37.jpg http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20050224150755/fallout/images/a/a1/Legion.jpg And didn't the romans practice keeping royal members of their subject nations as "guests" (read hostages, to guarantee loyalty). Could make for an interesting quest to free some peeps and break the legions hold on a subjugated ally. Probably a high stakes venture since they'd most likely be kept in teh capital at Flagstaff....heavy on stealth.
sgtKraigO
Just curious, if this is for the Legion ending, why would the player choose to weaken their hold on other territory. Also I believe the legion doesn't need the use of royal hostages as they just simply assimilate the tribes and move on. I wouldn't be surprised if the legion was expanding into other areas, but I suspect at the moment it's minimal and mostly consists of spies and scouts collecting information on the tribes in those areas. Devilman1975
Before I start putting out my research for the Legion endings. I think that we need two versions of a Legion mod where Caesar is alive and remains leader and the other where Lanius becomes the New Caesar. I would also like to add in a link to the Lanius fan made movie which could give some insight into the Legion and is also worth the watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCrM1_7wnDU . I can already imagine Lanius strolling around with two blind slave girls in this mod. Since the Frumentari and Lanius have a mutual dislike and distrust I can imagine it would be possible to work with members of the Legion who are unhappy with Lanius and plot to overthrow him. Maybe even the chance for the player to become the new Caesar. This would require the player to gain support from high ranking members in the Legion beforehand. The general consensus about the Legion is that after Caesar's death they will most likely conspire against each other and Lanius isn't someone who can hold the Legion together for a long time. I like the tattoos that you've designed Devin but they kind of look too tribal to be lore friendly in a Legion mod. When talking about the Legion with Chief Hanlon we know that the Legion burns and scrapes off tattoos from any tribals they assimilate into their army. Anyway here's what I got for the Legion endings. I've also decided to cover some companions here as well. What we know in the general victory endings for the Legion that as bad as Caesar is, he is regarded a peaceful overlord compared to Lanius who is regarded as a savage. This results in more people being killed when the Legion enslaves the Mojave under his rule. Boomers Killing Pearl and Loyal will override any ending and result in the Boomers leaving Nellis making it a scavenging ground for prospectors. If the quest Volare was not completed then the Boomers will get enslaved by the Legion after a fierce battle at Nellis. If Caesar remains alive and Volare was completed then a cautious Caesar will leave Nellis and the Boomers alone. Nothing is mentioned in a Lanius version but I can imagine him sacrificing a lot of men against the Boomers new found air superiority and getting nothing in return. This could be one of the things that cause some higher ranking officers to conspire against Lanius. Brotherhood of Steel Considering that Caesar orders the player to destroy the Mojave chapter then we wouldn't expect to see the Brotherhood around. The end slides mentions that any survivors who were outside either settled into new lives or headed west to find another chapter to join. There is another end slide where the Brotherhood retake HELIOS one from the retreating NCR but are routed by the Legion. This ending slide depends on the quests Eyesight to the Blind and Tend To Your Business being completed and I assume that the player would have to kill all the Brotherhood inside Hidden Valley instead of detonating the bunker when working for Caesar in the main game. Fiends If Three Card Bounty was completed then the Fiends will scatter throughout the wastelands and without a leader figure to organise them they become easy prey. If some or all Fiend leaders are alive then they will attack Camp McCarran in the final battle. I don't know if they manage to capture McCarren or not but the ending states that Caesar was unimpressed by their performance and drug use and orders their extermination. I can't imagine Lanius sparing them either. Followers of the Apocalypse If Caesar is still alive then he will allow them safe passage out of the Mojave. Lanius on the other hand will have them all executed for defaming the "noble origins" of the original Caesar and turn Mormon Fort into a pile of rubble. If Julie Farkas is already dead then the Followers will lose control of Mormon Fort which turns into a junkie's den which the player may be tasked to clear out. Arcade Gannon If the player sells Arcade to the Legion then he becomes Caesar's personal doctor. Caesar is happy to have an educated man around to argue philosophy with. Years later Arcade will commit suicide during an unguarded moment and Caesar is said to mourn his loss.If Arcade was sold into slavery and Caesar dies afterwards then he will be quickly killed by Lanius who has no tolerance for his witty remarks. If not sold into slavery and told to aid the Remnants against the Legion then an NCR Ranger will arrest Arcade later on for his association with the Enclave and is tried and imprisoned as a war criminal. If told to help the Followers then he will be spotted by the Legion when trying to help people escape and end up dead. Goodsprings If the player defended Goodsprings against the Powder Gangers then Goodsprings will be ignored due to the fact that the Legion are more preoccupied with New Vegas. However the fear of being under Caesar's shadow will force the locals to move on. Only the old and stubborn will remain in that town. If the player helped the Powder Gangers take over Goodsprings then it becomes a ghost town and the only people who pass through are travellers looking for water and tourists looking for the Courier's grave. If the Powder Gangers are still around then we can see another lottery just like the one in Nipton. Great Khans If Papa Khan does not break his deal with the Legion then the Great Khans are forcibly joined into the Legion, their women sold as wives to high ranking officers and the sick and elderly are killed under a Legion victory at Hoover Dam. If the player convinces Papa Khan to break the alliance then the Legion will destroy the Great Khans entirely leaving no trace of them under a Legion victory. If the player convinces Papa Khan to break his alliance with the Legion and to make their own destiny then the Greats Khans will migrate to Wyoming and this will override the other endings. The Kings If the player incites war between the Kings and NCR then the Legion will attempt to assimilate them into the Legion. This will result in the Kings refusing and being put to death after an failed escape. If the player on the other hand has eased tensions between the Kings and NCR then the Kings will be killed for their relationship with the NCR. If G.I Blues was not completed then the Legion will kill most of the Kings but some will escape into the wasteland. Novac If the quest Come Fly With Me was completed then the Bright Followers returning from their pilgrimage will help the citizens of Novac evacuate during a Legion attack. If the quest was not completed then the citizens of Novac will be killed by the Legion and feral ghouls from the Repconn Test Site will move into Novac. Boone The Legion Ending for Boone ties in with his own quest. If Boone is convinced to make amends over Bitter Springs then he begin a campaign against high ranking Legion officers. Even though the bounty on Boone's head rose to unheard levels few ever pursued it out of fear. If the player has made Boone vengeful over the event at Bitter Springs then Boone will carry out a suicide mission to take out the Legate. He ends up being crucified after killing scores of Legion and spitting tobacco in the Legate's face. Powder Gangers NCRCF If Eddie was killed then the prison becomes a scavenging ground for prospectors. If Eddie is still alive then most of the Powder Gangers will flee into the wastes fearing what the Legion will do them. Those who are too brave or foolish to remain will be killed and crucified by the Legion later on. Primm Primm's Legion ending depends on who was recruited to look after Primm during the quest My Kind of Town. If Primm was protected by the NCR then it will be abandoned and the Legion will move in. The Legion will let Primm stay upon for business and the citizens will live under watch by the Legion. Sherrif Meyers will oppose the Legion and convince the people to help him. The town will fall under the Legion's control and the citizens wiped out. Not understanding the gravity of the Legion's imminent takeover of Primm, Sheriff Primm Slim valiantly attempts to resist Caesar's will. However this scenario should result in the citizens being spared. NCR Rangers This ending depends on Chief Hanlon being exposed or not for manipulating intelligence reports. If Hanlon wasn't exposed during the quest Return To Sender then he and the Rangers will sacrifice themselves in an attempt to stop the Legion. He will be revered by people back in the NCR while bitter citizens and opportunistic senators will denounce President Kimball and General Oliver. If Hanlon was exposed and commits suicide then the NCR will be debating who was to blame for the loss of Hoover Dam. Hanlon while regarded by some as a traitor will be recognized as the only military commander who saw the futility of defending New Vegas. If Hanlon was convinced to stop falsifying reports then later on he will surrender to the Legion at Camp Golf. If Caesar is still alive then Hanlon will be beheaded as a sign of respect and admiration. Lanius on the other hand will just crucify Hanlon along with the rest of the rangers. Edit: Forgot to put the Remnant ending. The Remnants The Legion endings for them show another example of the difference between Caesar and Lanius. Cautious of their power Caesar will order the Legion not to pursue the Remnants. Lanius on the other hand will order the Legion to chase the Remnants into Arizona. This results in the deaths of hundreds of legionaries with Lanius gaining nothing in return. This could be another example that forces the Legion to conspire against Lanius. Edit 2: Even though there are no end slides for the Van Graffs, Crimson Caravans and Gun Runners I thought that it is still important to consider what happens to them in a Legion playthrough. The Van Graffs We know that the Van Graffs and the Legion had been doing business together from the fact that pulse and plasma grenades are found on their corpses. If the player turns in Cass to the Van Graffs during the quest Birds of a Feather then the next mission is to accompany the Van Graffs to a business deal with the Legion which turns out to be an NCR sting with the Van Graffs co-operating with the NCR. Even if the player refused to hand over Cass then I think that the deal/sting would have still happened without the player's participation. It would be safe to assume that the Legion will not forgive the Van Graffs for their treachery and have them crucified in a post Legion game. Crimson Caravans & Gun Runners I tied them together because of the fact that they are both NCR companies and the Legion will probably not look favorably towards them. Once word gets out that the NCR lost the dam to the Legion I can see both companies making a swift exit from the Mojave Wasteland. Maybe a couple of greedy merchants will stay behind thinking that they can negotiate with the Legion only to be crucified. I watched that video last night, I enjoyed the fact that the actor who played Lanius is the same one who voiced him in NV. Legate/Frumentarii: You could definitely find historical inspiration for a possible coup d'etat between the frumentarii and the legate. Boomers: I could see the Legate creating many enemies for his decision too waste so many legion lives on a pointless sacking of a heavily defended pre-war base. Maybe some of them were well liked frumentarii. side note: If Nelis is deserted and the NCR win I could see them using the base for their own air force. If the boomers rebuilt the bomber and then deserted the base then it could become another asset too the NCR. If its still at the bottom of Lake Mead then I could see an NCR officer wishing and hoping to retrieve and rebuild it but idk if they could do it. That would be up too the mod creator. Fiends: The Fiends fail taking over McCarren no matter what you do. The only reason Caesar doesn't assimilate them is due to their reliance too chems. Khans: I would like too see an abandon Red Rock Canyon and depending on the ending chosen, it could be pretty grim. If the Khans abandon the place then it could just be tent polls and some smoking fire places. If the Legion take them over then I could see some dead bodies being picked over by birds (it would be cool if the first sign is something being pecked at by birds and when the player get's closer it's revealed too be a dead khan, possibly a named one). Some of the tents could be burned too the ground, the training area destroyed, Jack and Diane dead crucified in front of their chem lab. Kings: Depending on the ending I could see a few wastelanders popping up here and there with the kings hair style. Boone: I would enjoy a quest where you could hunt down boone and have a choice of killing him or letting him go. The only reason he doesn't try too kill you is because you helped him at bitter springs. Camp Golf: I could see Caesar turning Camp Golf into a personal resort for higher ranked Legion members. Camp McCarren: The airport would probably become a major Legion training camp for recruits.
devinpatterson
Just curious, if this is for the Legion ending, why would the player choose to weaken their hold on other territory. This is the Legion thread, but it's a idea for the NCR mod, that is mirrored in teh Legion mod (where one would stop such a quest). I like to keep the symmetry if it makes sense in the game world, and also reuse material (to reduce workload). Also I believe the legion doesn't need the use of royal hostages as they just simply assimilate the tribes and move on. It was used historically to guarantee loyalty of allies, so for instance in the white legs case they wanted to join the Legion. If they had been allowed to (as opposed to being conquered and assimilated) the children of the while legs chieftains and other important peeps would find themselves raised in the capitol, where they would be insurance and also learn the imperial ways. I wouldn't be surprised if the legion was expanding into other areas, but I suspect at the moment it's minimal and mostly consists of spies and scouts collecting information on the tribes in those areas. I can't say for sure (with authority), but if you look at the wiki they'v got quite a potential land area, and many tribes are currently or recently in play (conflicts, conquests etc) that are not anywhere near the Mojave. I think that indicates some pretty busy fronts. The difference is, the NCR can put up a effective resistance, which the tribals cannot. So IMHO they are busy conquering (because I believe the legion needs that to moving forward and keep itself together), but it's resources being devoted to these other areas are proportional to the resistance. The Legion was committing majority of its military to Hoover Dam, after their first loss (And second, GO NCR!) they committed solely on recruiting and training. Again, I'm sure they have some troops stationed else where for defense but I can't see any major push into new lands while they're busy with the NCR. Also how do you break up quotes like that?
