Ranger Chauncey (super mutant Ranger)

The folllowing dialogue are the questions the player can ask Chauncey and his answers. (6- Normal Chauncey - Bold and Italic):

 

Why the NCR?

"Ever been a slave? No...ever been under the thumb of a war crazed mad man? I have. I have seen men like Ceasar, and the horror they unleash on the land. Men like him, who are corrupt by the evils of the past dont control, they point. They point in the direction they want to see the land burn for their amusment. Where they think the blood shed by the innocient will make them a more feared presence. They point in the direction their armies march off to surrender their lives for the voice of one little movement. I have seen their cruel plans and perverse goals come to completion and have even aided them. For that, I will never stop regreting my choice, until the day I draw my last breath. And I can promise I will not let men like Ceasar succeed in their goals ever again. Ive seen the results a thirst for war and power brings. I have seen what that brings. And I never want to see it again."

 

 

 

See this is my favourite part of dialogue. But the problem is I feel I can make it better. Maybe Make it more badass or soemthing. Basically the same structure as I want to keep the first 2 lines and the last three lines of the speech. Any comments?

Still working on the Dialogue but almost finished

I started working on the model. It's not a cut and paste job, I'm fitting it to the SM body very closely. Not an easy task when the brutes have no neck and other atonomical differences. So far the upper body is going pretty well, with most of the trouble spots around the neck and a bit with the lats. Here is a pic of how Chauncey is coming along;

Great work there Devin. As for what ya said about the voice, I'd be willing to send you a recording I made a while back when I was trying to get a feel for his voice.

Now the dialogue here is all Ive worked on so far. It contains lines for his wheel, his dialogue, and some places and people he will comment over.Still working on the tiny things like areas or things he would comment on but getting the main stuff out of the way. "What kind of a name is Chauncey?"

"My kind. Its better than Courier six anyways."

Right...I didnt know the NCR recruited Mutants?

Usually they dont. But I was an exception. Now,are you going to tell me what your doing at my station? Or am I going to have some bone breaking fun.

Courier.

"I saw the station and thought Id drop in and say hello."

Chauncey

"I hate comedians....So you just came in to say hello? Thats rather brave and stupid isnt it?"

Courier

"Your one to talk. You just held up the NCR's best friend."

Chauncey

"Haha Got a big pair of brass ones on you kid. Okay. Nice to meet ya. "

Courier

"So a mutant is the head of a Ranger station? And an NCR ranger? Thats strange..."

Chauncey

" Listen I heard it all before. Is he lost? Is he braindead? Has he killed the real sergeant and holding the rest of the station hostage? Wanna know how I got to be head? I worked damn hard to get where I am today, and I am a veteran of two armies including the NCR."

Courier

"Wait Two Armies?..You were a brotherhood member?"

Chauncey

"No...."

Courier

"So what.."

Chauncey

"Don't ask me..."

Courier

"I heard of some of the other mutants mention someone called the Master. Is that who you dont want to talk about?"

Chauncey

"Do I go around asking you what your f***ing story is?!"

Courier

"Come on Chauncey...I promise I wont judge you."

Chauncey

"Fine...What do you wanna know?"

"Used to be. There was a disagreement about a goal we both shared. We wanted to better the relation between humans and man...Kinda like the ghouls. But He believed we needed to unite under one banner to prove we could be a civilised society, united. I believed we needed to go to the source. So I joined the NCR."

"I'd like to say less people die, but I'd only be fooling myself. Truth is NCR and Legion probably have caused more deaths in the last few years over a dam, than the master ever did. Of course I never was good at counting."

Courier

"So why dont you quit?"

Chauncey

You have any idea how hard it was to get to my rank? Hell, theres more orphans among the ranks of the republic and its citizins of my brothers and sisters actions, than any other of the NCR's enemies. Some of the other officers have begged for an excuse to put me down. I've had corporals spit in my face and privates pull pins on my grenades in an attempt to kill me, just so they wouldnt have to follow a mutant. Only the men and women that survive my training respect me.And believe it or not...Those we do save almost make up for the ones we cant... That thought alone helps me sleep."

Companion Wheel Responses

Also on the companion quests, they have responses for the companion wheel that aren't visible. An example is different response to being asked to follow close if the companion is *already* following close. Veronica has a hilarious one; "This is as far as I get until you turn into a leggy brunette" I'll try to make up a list for you.

 

Didn't get a chance to read through all of them yet, but two subjects stood out

You might want to throw the famous pop cultural ref of "why are the hot ones always crazy" in here.

I was thiking that we could have Marcus and Chauncy share a common philosophical end game, but differ on the approach to reach it. Both want to protect their kin in a changing wasteland where mankind has emerged (or is emerging), as a dominant force (example the NCR, legion etc). Marcus see's the way to do that through peaceful means and friendly relations with humans. While Chauncey sees a more military solution and integration with humans via the ideals of the NCR.

 

I think this would allow them to have a stronger kinship in their shared interests but leave plenty of room for friction in their varying approaches. I believe it also creates a window into Chauncey's mind to explain the what and why of his ranger status....and that's an important defining theme of his character.

Well that is what I'm trying to convey here. See Chauncey believed the only way to redeem their actions committed during the masters reign was try to unite the intellegent from the ferals. While Marcus believed they should stand under one banner to show that even mutants could make a civil commuinty (like ghouls) Chauncey beleived they had to go for the source of human-mutant resentment, which he believed was the NCR. Marcus, being the more straight thinker of the two pointed out that they would sooner kill him then recruit him, while Chuancey pointed out that a commuinity of mutants would be very frictional without some form of discipline. Both men continued to be-little each others ideas, until words were said that could not be taken back(Marcus compared Chauncey to the Master in his way of thinking, while Chauncey said that Marcus had as about as much brain power as that of a behonmet) Chauncey left the then small commuinity of mutants and joined the NCR, slowly rose through the ranks, and came to the position he held today. While Marcus was successful in his quest to make a commuinity of Mutants. Both men refuse to acknowledge the other was right or wrong.(As the nightkin are troublesome in Jacobstown and Chancey is the head of a ranger station despite having saved multiple officers life.)

 

Anyways thats just the story I came up with. I mean if these men were closer than brothers, it would be very hard to forget their time together, and as a result they lost contact and neither know that the other is in the area.

 

As for the voice filve says I am not permitted to upload this kind of file as an attachment. I'll need to find another site to post it on then send a link. Any ideas for sites I could do this would be greatly appreciated.

Does Chauncey have a need? The New Vegas companions were kinda defined by having a need. Like a hole in their life. Something they weren't necessarily aware of, but had to go on a journey to try 'fill it in'... or die trying. For e..g For Veronica, it was her conflict with her people, for Boone, it was his freeing him from his guilt.

Isolation. He believes himself to be part of something, when he really is an outcast on both ends. I took inspiration from Muhammad Ali at one point, from when Ali had won the olympic medal but was still treated like a piece of s***. He threw the medal into a lake and never wanted a replacement. Chauncey is a lot like that.

He saved Kimbells (As well as some others) lives during the battle of the Hoover Dam, yet they wont allow him a high ranking position because of what he is. Because of his fight with Marcus, he can no longer be part of his old life with people he genuinly cared about (so much so, that he joined the cause that got him isolated in the first place.)

I suppose if anything he would want to be part of a "Family" again. I use the term family as a group that care and respect for each other. With Marcus he had care and respect, but because of the twos ego's niether of them will apologise. With the NCR, he has respect and is the NCR's Equivelant to Lanuis.

(Thought of this little piece of Dialogue today)

"I hope Lanius is ready for the "Monster of The West".

 

His goal could be a patch things up with Marcus, and get the NCR to back off Jacobstown (That way no messy Dialogue dealings with Marcus. Just have Chauncey walk over to Marcus and appear to be talking.)

Or

Maybe his need is to find out whose the officer out for his blood? Or maybe something at Bitter Springs.

(Thought of something like this a while back but this was all the dialogue I could come up with for it)

"Radio said leave no survivors.I dont know about other guys there but...The only thing moving when I finished was me. It brought back (shivers) unpleasent Memories."

 

The guy is a veteran of almost all the battles that have occured in the Mojave so Maybe role with that. But I think Isolation is the way to guy. I mean imagine what hes going through?

I see. A difference of opinion (redemption vs survival of their brethren), but not mutually exclusive.

I'm a bit confused on this point. Right out of the gate I have to say my knowledge of fallout is limited to FO3 & FONV, I never played the earlier games. But from current lore, the NCR does accept mutants (ghouls, SMs) as full citizens. It's part of the way I was viewing Chauncy's motivation in his choice to be a ranger. As a dominant force in the southwest and the only large faction that offers full protection under the law (as any other NCR citizen) the NCR would seem to be the obvious choice because they allow intergration, not because they are the most antithetical faction to mutants. BOS, Legion etc make no provisions for mutants and the only thing waiting at the end of that road would be extinction.

Oh for sure, I used to use mediafire, it's free to join up and not too painful. But you can also use dropbox (which I currently use), and other cloud storage solutions (google drive, one drive) probably have access to a outside link to download. Specifically for voicework a lot of people use soundcloud.com it's geared for voice artists.
