Well we actually have unoctium interested in helping develope it as well.

Hmmm I saw a comment by him early in the thread asking if Chauncey had a need, but I don't recall or seem to be able to find anything beyond that. Did I miss something?

Anyway, it's up to you if you want to put it out there for consideration for inclusion in the mod.

Some group chat client will be cool.

Maybe like a Google Doc?

I'm afraid I'm a bit limited in re: to time. I'm logging in from work, so I can't really do any kind of chat, and I doubt I'll have much in the way of free time when I'm off. Are you OK with posting it in the forum or is there a reason other than convenience/utility that you'd rather not?

Unoctiums gave a great idea adding more to Chauncey's Personality. And I uploaded some deeper voices for the character. Taking Unoctiums plan about an isolated socially inept stubborn mutant and adding it to the milataristic strong mutant we have come to here, I think we have come up with a hell of a character. So all in all here is my edited version of the New Chauncey story. Took a long time to do so be gentle & expect quite the read.

Chauncey has always respected two things:
1. Bravery to stand your ground and glare into certain death
2. Respect for soldiers
2162: After the masters defeat at the hand of a Vault dweller, his armies remnants abandoned their posts and began going in as many different directions as possible to escape their victim’s wrath. Chauncey, felt that this was not only cowardly but showed no respect to those who had been killed in the struggles. Chauncey felt like he had to stand against those who sought revenge on the master’s army and go down fighting like the soldier he was. Refusing to leave his post, he refused to run from his problems and face them head on. Chauncey was disappointed with the actions of his brothers in arms, who he always believed would stick by his side, shoulder to shoulder in their final moments. Refusing to travel with them and branding them cowardly hypocrites, Chauncey stayed in the vault he was stationed in only leaving for food or water when needed, accepting the responsibility of his actions and facing it.
2164: A group of mercenary’s decide to loot an old Vault when they are massacred by a monster. Only one survives, losing his arm during his escape. The bodies of the other mercs are buried in unmarked graves a mile from the vault, branding the survivor a liar and perhaps murderer of his own allies.
-Chauncey believed these to be a hit squad for him. Having attempted to talk to his visitors, Chauncey was greeted with gunfire and reverted to his old ways as one of the Masters Attack dog. After his rage subsides, Chauncey regrets his actions and buries the dead a mile from the Vault. Blaming his lack of control and linguistic skills on their death, Chauncey decides to read what little literature he had available to better himself. This was even less than he anticipated, as he only understood half of the books still intact (and a lot of those were picture books).-
2189: Stories of an un-killable monster become widespread across the Mojave and many foolish waste landers wish to make a name for themselves by killing this beast. None ever return from the Hole (the vaults new christened name as the door seems to have been torn down by either age or something powerful). Rumours that the monster guarding a great treasure accompanies the stories (as if he were some kind of dragon guarding a treasure) to entice the interest of mercenaries.
-Chauncey, having read many of the books in his vault, remains in his vault training and disciplining himself. As well as fighting and killing any and all intruders who attempt to go after some treasure, he continues to read and better himself. The vault however was picked clean years ago, of any resources that these mercenaries could find useful. He now avoids the front of the vault, as to avoid the sunlight and the new world, rather enjoying the myth he has constructed around that of his presence. The one thing he now believes is that Humans are as cowardly as his brothers.-
2210: A man by the name of (Working title) Eugene "The Mouse" Myers, shows interest in joining the Desert Rangers. Eugene has been a joke for most his life, due to his small stature and weak demeanour. Having been too weak and puny to work on his family’s farm, possessing a stutter that made most traders laugh at the sound of a syllable, as well as being a known pacifist. Eugene's nickname came from an old world saying (are you a man or a mouse), and the universal understanding was that Eugene was small, weak and did not possess any redeeming quality visible to his community. Therefore it was a shock when Eugene decided to join the Desert Ranger, and was greeted with heavy ridicule by his family, neighbours and the rangers themselves. Eugene demanded an opportunity to prove he was as capable a ranger as any other farm boy.
Annoyed by the kid’s attitude, the rangers give him what he wanted. To gain his ranger star and the title of desert ranger, Eugene Myers must traverse the Hole and rid the ancient vault of whatever is terrorizing the locals. Eugene unaware of the myths and stories of the beast, accepts the offer with the condition he check in daily to confirm he is still alive. A dead pool begins among the town’s people and local rangers on his chances. Insulted and mocked by some local drunks, Eugene places a bet on himself to return alive.
He arrives at the old vault a two weeks after departing, and entering the vault cautiously, his father’s rifle in hand and his own pistol as a side arm, Eugene believed he was ready for any monsters inside the Vault (when in fact he was terrified of what the vault held.). Making it to the atrium of the Vault, Eugene was ambushed by a bunch of fiends who had been following him for days with the intention of sacrificing him to the monster for preferable treatment. Eugene is beaten and has his father’s rifle taken from him by the fiends. He is the first to see the heavily scared monster behind the fiends with a sadistic smile on his lips. After a bloody and sickening massacre, Eugene looks in horror at the bloodied hands of the monster he was sent to kill as it mutters something. Drawing his pistol, he fires a warning shot which gains the monsters attention. Angered at first, the monster appears to take pity on the young man, infuriating him further.
"NO! I am not worthless! I will accomplish my mission, follow my orders and become a ranger!"
Eugene shouted, a shaking aim on the beast. Something amazing occurred then, the monster helped Eugene instead of killing him. He even escorted Eugene back to the Ranger camp, as proof of "The Mouse’s" Accomplishments. Chauncey is greeted with hostility at first, but Eugene explains that not only did he rid the vault of the monster, but he also faced down a super mutant. Gaining his star, he is proud, but feels like he never deserved it. Stating to his new Mutant friend that the star should be split in half, as he did owe Chauncey his life, he is shocked when Chauncey snaps it in half and offers the human half. The share a laugh at Chauncey’s mistake and Eugene asks if Chauncey believed Eugene deserved the ranger star.
"Kid...Nobody deserves what happens to them, it just happens. I was down in that vault for years and you’re the only one that stood your ground against me. All in the name of following orders. If you don’t deserve that star on that alone, then the rangers must be a pretty strict group. Besides....You have plenty of time to prove you earned that star now you’re a ranger."
Chauncey explained, thus beginning one of the most impressive ranger teams, in desert ranger records.
-Chauncey was enraged that these fiends believed the sacrifice of a life would indeed merit some sort of mercy from someone who had only recently learnt to appreciate life, as well as equality. He went into one of his blood lusts and murdered the fiends with his bare hands. It wasn’t till after, when he was staring into his brain, skull and blood painted hands that he realised he had lost control once more. A gun shot informed him that there was a survivor. A skinny, pathetic looking man with a gun that was the equivalent of a pee shooter against Chauncey. Feeling tired, merciful, disappointed in himself and pitiful for the runt, Chauncey decided to let the man go, which surprisingly enraged the man. He barked that he was not a weak individual and that he was not going to leave until his orders were complete. Chauncey, in that moment, felt a bond with the weak man. They were two sides of the same coin, two beings seeking validation to redeem their reputations. Chauncey decided to help the man accomplish his mission and even escorted the man back to his station. There, the man named Eugene, protected Chauncey and defended him. Chauncey, having been without social interaction for some years, felt awkward trying to talk to the man. He was so bad at social interaction, he took Eugene’s word literally and broke the star the two had gained by completion of the mission. Both shared a laugh at the social foh-pa, and Chauncey joined the rangers at his new friend recommendation.-
2225: Eugene has become a better and fiercer ranger thanks to his training and the motivation of his partner Chauncey. The two having worked together for 15 years, soon become aware of an unspoken truth after a bar fight with some youths in Reno over a woman. Chauncey is still as strong and powerful as he was the day the two met, but Eugene is getting older and weaker with each passing day, and both parties are too stubborn to admit this. Now lacking the strength of his youth, Chauncey decides he will put himself in harm’s way to protect the person who brought him out of hiding. Not only on the battlefield but from the demons inside the human. While Chauncey has buried his guilt and shame (From the master’s army) deep inside himself, he can see the human is struggling with his own issues. Chauncey feels responsible for the life of Eugene and would sooner end his own life rather than failing to protect the first friend he has had in a lifetime. Chauncey never wants to be alone again. But Chauncey can’t save the Ranger from himself fully, and Eugene begins to turn to the bottle.
2230: Eugene is asked to leave the rangers out of neglect for his own wellbeing, and his fellow rangers. Now a drunk and jet abuser, Eugene refuses to leave at the age of 40, promising he will clean himself up. Chauncey interjects and proceeds to defend his friend’s honour as a ranger, asking the rangers to reconsider their decision. Chauncey and Eugene come to blows after the hearing is postponed at a later date. The fight consisted mostly of Chauncey being beaten by the out of shape ranger, refusing to hit his friend at all costs. It ends when Eugene breaks down in tears at his friend’s refusal to fight and takes a leave of absence to get his life together.
2233: Chauncey after three years of working alone is introduced to Emelia Hart, his new partner. Refusal to work with anyone but Eugene, Chauncey dismisses her rudely and returns to his training. Miss Hart, insulted and out to prove herself, removes her jacket and flings it at the Mutant ranger, challenging him to a round of hand to hand combat. Smaller than Eugene was upon their first meeting, she gains the mutants attention and he accepts her offer refusing to hold anything back. Chauncey wins the fight, but is impressed by the girl’s quick movement and tactics. The two begin a conditional partnership, under the condition that she does lose her knife (a habit she had before teaming with Chauncey), she never complains, and she doesn’t try to act the hero.
-Emilia Hart lied about her age to get into the Ranger, while the accepted age was 18, she entered at 15 with the help of forged papers. Emelia did so to get revenge against a group of friends that slaughtered her family. Excelling at hand to hand combat, Emelia was quickly accepted into the rangers, but her forgetful nature and "delightful" attitude made her something of difficulty to work with.-
2236: Emelia celebrates her 18th birthday privately with her partner Chauncey. The presents consist of six bottles of scotch and a new hunting knife. The two having grown close in the last few years, Chauncey something of a father figure to Emelia, who loves to hear the stories about Eugene and Chauncey the Mutant Rangers.
2237: Emelia is married to Ranger third class Evans. Chauncey gives Emelia away on her wedding day, feeling like he’s part of a family for the first time in a long time.
2238: Emelia requests discharge from the rangers as she has fallen pregnant. Chauncey is asked to stay away from Emelia by her husband, who resents Chauncey's position in her life. Chauncey notes that bruises on Emelia's face are new and not from sparing.
2239: Ranger 1st Class Emelia Evans is found beaten to death and raped at the age of 21, after having just suffered a miscarriage months prior in her family home. Her husband is announced missing and presumed dead. Reports estimate a raider attack.
-Chauncey blames himself for her death and Eugene's addictions, but because he is a soldier first, he buries these feelings deep down inside of him, adding to the already swelling amount of trauma. He believes the culprit to be her husband, also blaming him for his partners miscarriage.-
2245: Chauncey is forced to take on a new sniper called Pierce. Refers to him as an overconfident, loud mouth, who doesn’t know when to shut up. Pierce asks about Chauncey’s former partners, to which Chauncey refuses to share anything with the sniper. After dispatching a few gangs, Pierce impresses Chauncey with his sniping ability, but voices concern about Pierce's "Steady" intake.
Pierce waves it off as an aid not a hindrance.
-Ranger Sniper Class Pierce Low, an excellent sniper and aware of his talent. Could be classes as the perfect soldier were he not so proud of his ability. Can hit a Brahmins horn from a mile away, drunk on whiskey.-
2246: Pierce becomes more jittery and unfocused, his personal issues begin showing in his performance. Chauncey discovers that Pierce is dealing with substance abuse, having become addicted to steady as a result of his work. Chauncey promises he will keep this quiet if Pierce gets help. Pierce agrees to layoff the Steady.
2247: Ranger Sniper Class Pierce is found dead in his barracks having overdosed on a cocktail of narcotics. He is dead at 27.
-Chauncey takes on this failure as he believed Pierce was strong enough to overcome his problems.-
2255: Chauncey hears of the NCR for the first time after meeting an old friend of his who was now a shadow of his former self. MeansonofABitch was beaten badly by these soldiers and had half his tongue removed, so he now sounded like a slurring idiot. Chauncey asked his superiors about the NCR, to which they responded that it was a group of soldiers playing f*** with the land they had and hopefully they would never come at odds.
2256: Chauncey requests transfer to the Mojave, no longer able to deal with the problems of his current station and the bad memories it brings him.
2257: Chauncey arrives in the Mojave and his new station. To his joy and surprise Eugene Myers, now Head Ranger of Chauncey Station, is still alive at 67. The two talk and share stories, Eugene asking Chauncey questions like:
"Why did you stay?"
"Why did you try and help me after all I had done to you?"
Chauncey’s only response was because they were friends. Eugene mocks Chauncey about his answer, causing both men to laugh like the first time. Chauncey tells Eugene his goal to unify the two races through assimilation. That his experiences have thought him that it didn’t matter what race you were. Both sides had monsters, and that mutants should be given the same respect as ghouls.
2258: Eugene Myers is wounded badly by a mutant, who is quickly disposed of by Chauncey. Dying, he begins begging Chauncey to leave the Rangers and go home to his real family. Stating that the rangers are as stubborn as Chauncey was and they would never accept Chauncey into their ranks. Chauncey refuses, out of duty not only to his cause, but to that of his officer’s orders. As the feral mutants move in, Eugene begs Chauncey to end his life. To not let him be some mutants supper. Chauncey refuses again, stating that they are getting out of this together, not wanting to lose his best friend. Eugene then orders Chauncey as his officer to end his life then and there, stating that he wants to go out on his terms. Chauncey reluctantly completes his actions and moments after, is greeted by the backup they ordered earlier. Eugene Myers dies at the age of 68,
-Chauncey now carries the burden of three dead on his shoulders, as well as their tags and Eugene’s half of the star. All of which he cared for and swore to protect. He never takes up another partner after this, and refuses work. He feels lost now, and refuses to speak out until 2271. When the NCR and Rangers Sign the unification treaty. Chauncey is given two choices, Fight for the NCR or be executed for crimes against the republic. Chauncey reluctantly accepts the first one. And becomes an NCR Ranger.-
2272: Chauncey feeling abandoned by his group, friends and race dives into paperwork and drill instruction. Still taking up the random bounties nobody else takes up.
2275: Chauncey spends all his earning in the casinos where, and develops a gambling problem, while on leave.
2276: Battle of Helios One occurs and Chauncey is enlisted as support due to his military record with the Rangers.
2277: First Battle of Hoover dam, Chauncey's legend resurfaces among the Legion who witnessed a mutant running into the battle slaughtering legionnaires. Several legionnaires reported gunning him down as he carried survivors out of the city on the last day. Reports say he was wounded and limping. Chauncey is awarded a medal by the President himself, but does not accept his medal, nor does he accept the presidents "sugared words."
"A nice badge doesn’t do s*** for the dead...sir."
Walking away from Kimball, many soldiers called him a disgrace and they expected no better from a mutant.
2278: Chauncey apologises to Kimball at an arranged meeting, Kimball claims to not recall his public shaming, but accepts Chauncey’s apology half-heartedly. Kimball asks what Chauncey thinks of his race and rank in the NCR. Chauncey responds:
"Rank doesn’t mean much these days sir...but in regards to my race.... I would say it’s no different from your opinion of your race."
2281: The Courier.
Chauncey's breakdown should be a long time coming. If he was human he would have gotten help but since he was a mutant there was no desire to give him help. Chauncey feels like whatever he touches dies now and therefore he can’t trust anybody anymore and has become isolated again. Also, NCR's recruitment of him has left him feeling less of an individual and more of a dog. To put it simply, Chauncey was forced to revert back to what he was for the master, under a new flag and name. The only difference is that he hates the legion more than the NCR. While the NCR is no picnic there is hope for him to make his mark on them and prove unity is possible, while the legion would most likely enslave them and CHauncey would be back where he started. Under a new masters rule. With characters like dog and tabitha showing us the result of the masters ruling, is it hard to think that Chauncey hiding a deeper pain.
