help needed

Obviously this is the first time I've ever been to this forum, so excuse me if I'm neglecting any seemingly obvious existing solutions or troubleshooting guides.

I've been having trouble with a few different aspects of Oblivion. Firstly, and least of all, I have some missing meshes, and certain terrain objects/doodads are transparent. Secondly, the ground terrain suffers from strange patchiness, with a random, large square of stone terrain (not objects) in the middle of snow, or the like. Also, the water is completely opaque from the outside, but doesn't affect vision in any way once underwater. Thirdly, there is absolutely no darkness, regardless of the time; the world is always perfectly well-lit, even better lit than it would normally be during the day. Fourthly, the new character that I started doesn't get attribute increases for leveling up. I slept to level 2 and it displayed the same sort of message you'd receive level 20 and onward. Fifthly, pc and npc eyes do not show up, and neither do certain items I wear (such as heavy armour - which makes me appear invisible).

I tried disabling the mods I thought would be responsible, to no avail. So, thinking that perhaps the necessary files were overwritten or corrupt, I reinstalled Oblivion, without change. The only mods I've used have been recommended by uesp or tesnexus reputable sources so I doubt that any of the mods are broken, and I've been careful not to use any conflicting mods, using obmm. While with certain issues, such as the missing eyes, I can easily recognise the culprit mod (elaborate eyes) but don't understand why the issue remains after their removal, not to mention Oblivion's reinstallation. I installed all the performance mods on A's List, and I presume the problem lies somewhere between these few. But, as I just mentioned, I've deactivated them all and reinstalled, to no avail.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First, Welcome to TesNexus

I hope you didn't type in that entire list. There is a feature in OBMM that allows you to copy and paste it.

The list on the right is the mods that are OMODs, they will always be in alphabetical order. Any active (blue) OMOD will have a corresponding esp in the list on the left, which is the actual load order.

The first thing that jumps out is your Oblivion.esm should always be the first thing in the list. Then by custom named do you mean you changed the name on the mod? If so that can cause it to have problems finding parts of itself.

As to actual load order, if you look through the forums much you will find a very good recommended load order by Dezdimodia - she posts it several times a day, And will probably post it here when she sees this topic.

There is a utility program called BOSS - Better Oblivion Sorting that can set a good beginning order that can then be modified by using Dezdimondia's system.

Heh, yeah I typed the whole thing. Didn't know of that feature.

I thought there were some that appeared in the OMOD list that weren't on the .esp list.

By custom named I mean there wasn't any conversion data so I had to name it myself.

So it's probably a load order issue then? I moved Oblivion.esm to the top of the list, didn't fix anything that I could tell, although when I went to load my recently started game it warned me that certain objects/whatever may not exist, etc. you know the one. The only sorting I'd been aware was necessary was putting OOO or UOP first on the load order.

Thanks for the help.

edit: I just started up Oblivion without any mods on at all, and yet the effects I'm trying to get rid of were still there (with the exception of eyes, which were visible again), though no other mod effects were, as they shouldn't be. So the problem can't be my active mods...
