how do you run 7z and rar files in oblivion?

i need an answer please beacuse more than half my dls are rar or 7z files

It's a compressed archive, like .zip. You need to extract the files using 7zip or WinRAR first.

I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. Usually I suggest people Winrar, as it's faster and generally simpler, better looking, more stable and I just like it more personally, but installation for it is a pain, and you seem to want something that does just the basics, so in the end yeah.

 

Get Seven Zip (7 zip)

http://www.7-zip.org/ takes care of all the package files. You can also use Wrye Bash Bain, that will unpack the files for you automatically and put them into the right folders. It truly is a useful tool, especially if you're new to unpacking. At least I'd say so :)

I use both 7zip and winrar simply because there is one function that winrar does better, and that's spanning files into several volumes. 7zip would take my 306mb cosmetic mod and split it into about 20 files, whereas winrar will generate 5 larger files. I've also had trouble getting 7zip to put file pieces back together. Other than that, I generally prefer 7zip personally.
