Move All my mods to a new pc

1)get an external hard drive big enough to hold your mods

2)copy c:/programfiles/bethesda softworks/oblivion/data folder to it

2a)If you have things like OBMM, copy that in there too, but keep the folder structures intact!

3)install oblivion on new computer

4)Dump the files you backed up onto your external hard drive into their right spot.

Works for me every time, when I stop playing oblivion, I just back my data folder up and uninstall it...when I want to come back, I just dump the backup data folder from my external hard drive onto my PC...and its like I never uninstalled in the first place.

Thanks

This will work for the unofficial patches, qarls and OOO aswell?

It should, but if you're nervous about anything messing up then back up the downloaded file (.7z/.rar/.zip or whatever) as well.

I would use 7zip to zip my entire data folder and move it. 7zip is a lot better then winrar because the compressed .7z is actually way smaller then a compressed .rar

I'd be careful about that. I once tried doing something like that with some data inside deeply nested folders and all the files corrupted. It wasn't Oblivion files but some other stuff that I was trying to back up and as it turned out the deep directory structure of the program I was backing up worked against me when I tried to compress it into only a few files. I'll never do that again, at least not unless I have a second backup in case it backfires.

Edit: This is not to say it wouldn't work on the Oblivion data directory. I have zipped it myself as well, but I'm just cautioning that zipping up for backup may not be the best bet for certain types of data.

One thing I could recommend in creating a document file so you can store and label all the links to all the mods that you download in case you lose all of your mods in say, a system failure (which in said case, it's easier to store a doc file in a USB than it is to store all your mods - and copying to an external hard-drive takes some good time), or issues with Oblivion itself that requires removal of everything.

With the document file, you can just redirect yourself to the links in an instant and download the file from there. Don't forget also to link to important programs that certain mods won't work without (such as OBSE).

Ah, but that is assuming all the mods will still be online if that happens. I recently lost everything myself and many of the mods I needed to recover were removed. I redownloaded in July, and even some of the mods I grabbed since then have been removed. (I had my zipped files saved but they were corrupted.) If there's space, or you can burn them to a disk, I'd recommend saving all your downloaded files.

Another trick I use to get back to the download page here is to keep file names intact, then I can use the number on the end of the file name to locate the download page again. This helped me because I had a bunch of corrupted zipped files and could look them up again by file name.

Well what i can say is that Sakura is right. The best thing to do is copy the whole DATA folder with the OBMM folder (as there are all your obmm mods stored in there) You probably want to back up your OBSE folder as well.

Then plug in an external hard drive ( i recommand one with 50gb+ free memory) Make a new folder in it and copy everything in there, do NOT move the usb cable!!! You might risk BIG TIME data loss and corrupt folders!!!!

Then install your oblivion again with all the OFFICIALS patches then copy back your folder in there. Should work perfectly.

Question: How do i know?

Answer: Did it a few times till my oblvion was too big too move from PC to PC so now its resides on my lil buddy, using 1/4 of my hardrive...
