No distant grass with grid over 5

Recommended Posts

As we know the grass is drawn only in the loaded grid and not on the distant lod.

The problem is that I'm not able to view distant grass (but in the grid) while uGridToLoad is at 7 or 9 (even if I raise the fGrassEndDistance and fGrassStartFadeDistance). The grass has the same distance as uGridToLoad at 5.

Do you know why?

I don't know if this will work but try setting back to default the grass values in the .ini file and set the grass via the in-game options. I'm only suggesting this because that's how I've set the grass in my game (I've never tried changing the .ini to be honest).

I had a weird conflict though once when I tweaked self shadows in the .ini file and in the in-game options.

Good news. :) I just tried it with uGridToLoad=9,fGrassEndDistance=18000.0000 and fGrassStartFadeDistance=17000.0000. There was a difference and I'm not using mods for LOD etc.

I say,try once the vanilla values and then try the ones I did. If you'll see a difference then you can proceed tweaking things as you wish. If you won't see a difference then there's something odd going on.

If it's not "dramatic" it doesn't work :)

The grass should be 3 times more than default.

You can see the difference if you install OGO (Oblivion Grass Overhaul). This plugin replace the textures for the normal lod (simply delete them to remove). The textures have a different color from the distant lod, so you are able to view very well where the normal lod ends and where the distant lod starts. You should be able to view the grass over the entire normal lod, but it's seems that it isn't. It seems another game engine limitation, that has been solved with skyrim engine (in skyrim it works).

I will try to upload a screenshot to understand better my question.
