rolfsnit
A mod that resembles a charactor simular to the quest for glory style Paladin...someone that is powerful but unable to kill an NPC. He could have an "ultimate calm" spell that is permanant for bandits and such...and it would be even better if you could still do all the quests. (except the dark brotherhood and thieves guild, that would just be silly.) I am not a modder so I have no idea what kind of scripting changes this would entail...but if you made a nice lore friendly story line and a reward for every "paladin like" choice you made, I think this would be really fun. Retribution
Paladins kill evil people.
Slawter500
Just make a calm spell in CS that affects all levels for an insane amount of time. However it'd still be impossible to do the quests. Fighters Guild requires you to kill the whole blackwood company. Mages-necromancers. Do some of the side quests that dont require killing. Or maybe "Accidently" kill someone and get the taste for it.
David Brasher
I have messed around with a few non-lethal spells like that. In Morrowind, it was cool. If you were a pacifist who tried not to shed blood, you could knock down people with hand to hand combat, and then grab whatever you needed to complete the quest, and run away. I had a pacifist rise to the second highest level of the Mage guild without really killing any NPCs to speak of. Calm spells are great. Paralyze is also nice. You can mess with the costs so even low-level characters can cast them. I like burden 400. That is much like paralyze. On some of my spells, I would place positive effects. Like if I was going to paralyze an enemy for 30 seconds I might put heal and shield on the spell as secondary effects so the enemy could not be killed while helpless. When playing a pacifist character, it is painful to see NPCs die, and you would not want it on your conscience.
Slawter500
Oh ive just remembered there is a knock out mod, however its pretty buggy.
rolfsnit
Hmmm...defining what is "good" and what is "evil" isn't what I had in mind. I was thinking more like "wouldn't it be fun to do the opposite of what you would normally do after playing the game over and over...eventually getting bored and killing everyone...", to create a new type of charactor and unique questline dedicated to a bullheaded concept of "a defender or advocate of a noble cause". He/she wouldn't actually have to be noble...just dedicated. Like I said, I am not a modder so I don't know if this is even possible. I have seen mods in Morrowind that changed the quests dramatically...is this not possible in oblivion? For example, in the quest "The Siren's Deception" your only option is to confront the gang about their activities, and kill them all. Is it possible to change this so that they get arrested by Gogan and Maelona instead? The knockout mod was a wonderful suggestion, but like you said it is very buggy. Also, I was thinking more about charactor development than anything. Perhaps a curse or blessing that prevents him/her from harming another human, and some kind of penalty or reward for decisions made.
rolfsnit
Ok...I did a little research and it seems like this might be possible. Couldn't you take the resurrect function already implemented in the game so that it recognizes the NPC as dead, then bring them back? Is it possible to make some sort of weapon or spell mod that would automatically tell the console what ID to ressurect? This might have been the premise for the "knockout mod". Add a few dialog changes and there you go. Of course I am not a modder so I might be completely wrong.
rolfsnit
Found a resurrection spell mod. Is there anyone else interrested in this concept? Please let me know.
