One of the first plant forms to make a comeback, would be Fungi and no doubt mutated to survive in the new conditions. It is normal that a Nation's capital and surrounding environs would be the Primary Strategic Target, and a whole bunch of warheads would be tasked for that target. Those wooden houses in Springvale would have been vaporized by one thermal pulse, and anything that survived that would have been flattened by the compression wave that follows closely behind it. The flora (plants) that do come back would likely be mutated. The brahmin are an abvious mutation. Definitely female and perpetually lactating. Udders are not bloated like that, unless they are full of milk. I know this first hand. There should be bulls and calves.
