Megatarius
I did a completely clean uninstall. Nothing was left. No trace. Then I reinstalled the game. The ugrade will not work. "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." At least the game still runs, but it's now the unpatched version. What's going on? And more importantly, are there mods that won't work now? I don't know what to do short of reformatting, which is out of the question. It's GOTY edition, by the way. And Shivering Isles patched fine. UPDATE: So I tried again, even though I didn't think it would work, and even though it still gave me the error, it finished the upgrade. The game runs, the number is correct at the bottom, and I can play around in the prison fine. However, there was still the error, so something wasn't upgraded. Maybe it doesn't matter, but I'm still kind of worried.
Rethrain
I think that's fine, and frankly you should test the mods, see if there is anything wrong you can't normally fix. I wouldn't recommend formatting. Edit#1: GOTY already has all the patches, so it's pre-patched.
luxsie
I've faced this problem before i installed the OBSE,what requires the ver1.2 to run.i had no idea but to reinstall it. and when it's time for me to pacth the "Unoffical patch for oblivion", i wondered for a while and just installed the official update to 1.2..and i succeeded.i tried again and found it's the "Unofficial .." 's problem. so, please reinstall the original and replace the original program file and use the official update. Then it's the time for you to install the unofficial one. Then launch the game with OBSE.[Many MOD need that.]maybe i haven't told you very clearly. but i've really experienced this problem. email to [email protected][My email box] if you had trouble in understand the words above. bben46
If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game. If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch. To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch. You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included. If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions. If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk. Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk. Megatarius
It was Shivering Isles. I have Shivering Isles installed as well. And I was mistaken. It's actually not Game of the Year. I got it a while ago and never had time to play it because of school until now. And everything seems to be working fine, except I forgot how slowly you run at first.
