Shubal
I have a GeForce 760/2g vram. It runs a high frame rate without V sync in place. With V sync it is usually at 61 /63 fps even though set to 60. I put a frame rate limiter on it and lowered it to 40 FPS and the stutter from world zones that sap FPS is lessened and I cant see any visual difference between 60 and 40. So my question is...do I gain any benefit operationwise in other sectors by relieving the card of 1/3rd of its rendering task?
FiftyTifty
The drops will be less noticeable. And if you framecap to your minimum framerate (or the lowest tolerable framerate), add ifpsclamp=xx (where xx is what you've limited your framerate to. I limit mine to 30, so I set ifpsclamp=30) to Skyrim.ini under [General]...You'll no longer suffer at the hands of Gamebryo's microstutter. The trade-off, though, is when the framerate dips below ifpsclamp's setting, the game will go in slow motion. The amount of slow motion increases as the framerate falls. KeeperFiM
There is a benefit to capping frame rate... you get more even frame times for less stuttering and less variable framerate for more consistant performance. Your hardware will also be worked less.
