Regular CTDs

Ranging from 10 minutes to an hour, I always CTD. I looked up the errors with event viewer, and the messages are all more or less this:

 

Faulting application fallout3.exe, version 1.7.0.3, faulting module d3d9.dll, version 5.3.2600.2180, fault address 0x0008b211.

 

Any idea if this is fixable? :unsure:

and you tried every thing.

well let me try to help some of you.

first (and trust me this is going to suck) i need you to uninstall your game

then I need you to get rid of the folder that the game was in.

now I want you to reinstall the main game and ONLY THE MAIN GAME and patch it to v1.7 you can find that here http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/updates.html do not have any thing else installed when you patch to v1.7. For some dumbass reason when you patch your game and you have mods in or expansion packs in it gets all messed up thats why you need to patch the main game before you you do any mod or pack installs another thing you need to know some mods that you get for you game might be crashing your game too!!! so be light on your mods and the expansion packs should always be fine I do hope i helped some of you

I forgot to add in the OP that at random occasions a sound will play for anything from half a minute to several. I'm pretty sure its the vault door opening sound. This has no connection to the time of my crashes, though.I removed all the codecs other than WMP as far as i'm aware. I reinstalled and patched to 1.7 before applying mods, and the problem is still the same. I'm on XP.

One little problem with your "solution" there. The fact of the matter is that this problem has been in the game since 1.0.0.12. So, I'm going to have to call shenanigans on that so-called "fix" of yours.

Nobody have any ideas about the source of this problem? Its left me unable to play. :confused:

If the usual troubleshooting tips can't help, then I don't know what to say:

If it's frequent, then I would suspect you have driver or codec issues (although that's really more Fallout 3's fault than your system).

To expand on gsmanner's driver suggestion -- if you use an nVidia card, older drivers can cause problems in Vista. I had similar problems (in Oblivion) until I updated the driver. With my new GeForce GTS 250, the newer driver causes no problems. You can check for the latest nVidia drivers at nVidia Official Drivers page.
