Mw Construction Set Possibilities

first of all i want to say if there is already a topic like this out there i couldnt find it (i found specific mods/exmods (i dunno it ws very confusing to me - i dunno what any of that means), but i wanted a general topic)

now im not too good at modding - if i really want somthin specific, i just go to the experts nd fish somthin out of the enormous pool. i then start reading the help file for the construction set again (for the 4th time) to see if i cant meke myself any better at it. it is then i read somthing interesting (would quote it but i cant remember where it is and can't be bothered looking) that told me in a nutshell: "you can not only put extension files(plugins) to morrowind(the master files) but you could also make your own master files! now this makes my heart miss a beat, as it basically tells me you can create any game your heart desires!

now this is very good in two ways: 1) you can create any game you want (obviously very good!) 2) mw is never going to be out-dated! (i cant see people giving up on their creations taking them (possibly) years to make - they'd never throw away all that time spent!! not even with a new construction set on the way!)

what i now crave to know is: are there any games yet? i have read of the Phoenix game (sounds promising), and of the Middle Earth game, which has sadly been stopped due to inevitable cpoyright issues. however, i wish to know are there any more? are any ready yet? how should i come about them? is there a fee? why have i been so slow on the uptake of this possibilitie? (lol don't have to answer that one!)

should hope for quite an explenation to this - i really would read all of the other more specific forum topics, but there's so many of them, i wouldnt know where to begin. besides, i only want a basic (yet somehow simultaniously very very detailed) overview of all of the new games.

There pretty much aren't, just because of the huge difficulty in actually creating a new game like that. You're talking about a huge amount of effort from a large team over years of work, and that's if you can even do it within the game engine's limitations.

yes, thats what i thought, but doesnt it say somewhere in that pheonex forum that they've already spent x years on it (i read that they actually gave up for a long while, but they started up again(though i dont know how recent this was) - unless theyve given up again). surely someone somewhere must be close to comin up with something?? im gonna (try) read everythin i can on project pheonix....

I am not sure if I quite understand you. There have been a number of attempts to use the MW engine to completely replace the world of Morrowind itself. Some of these have been issued into the modding community (The Sword of Perithia or something like that), others are still in progress (Tamriel Rebuilt), some have died incomplete. There have also been many instances where mods the equivalent to new expansions have also been issued. There is a thread that lists the opinions of others on some of these in the pinned section of plug-ins.

By selecting specific mods you can replace most game textures, add sound effects and music, add npcs, pick up new armour types etc. etc. thus creating a new look MW without changing the quests or add many new factions, lands and cities with so many quests the original can be ignored.

So yes there are ways of constantly changing MW but within the limitation of the game engine, the issues of copyright and the reasonableness of the task. (There is little point in using MW to develop a Final Fantasy game even if it were possible as they can be purchased already, you'd infringe copyright and as Peregrine points out the concerted effort of a huge team would be needed.) And you have to issue them free or you will be breaking the law by using Bethesda's product to try to make money for yourself.

From a thread you have written elsewhere it seems you have not yet experienced the existing MW experience to the full. Start there, add the expansions and official plug-ins. Select a few tweaks, additions and enhancements. Then try some of the bigger mods. Your time will be completely cut out for you. And as you get to know the cs create your own changes.

True, i havent completed morrowind. In face, ill even venture so far into noobie land ill reveal im only as far as Caius leaving morrowind in the main quest, and have only just touched upon the Tribunal expansion (though, percentage-wise, i admit i dont even know how far that is lol - dont suppose anyone could tell me?)

yes, at first, all i thought you could do to create a new world is edit the whole of morrowind, and change everything. morrowind is a master file, right? wouldnt using the method just described be just a plugin? and that plugin would rely on the mw master file? what i mean when i say create a new game is create its own master file, so you wouldnt have to change weaponry and armour - you would just make your own new weaponry and armour. fair enough, its a damn site more harder, longer, (not so much to me, but you may see it as) pointless, and rightly so; the money's not worth it, as there isnt any.

all i crave to know, is: is it possible to create your own master file therfore, game?(as then you could start afresh - my theory is if you DO use the original mw master file to create your own game, you will be tempted to take the easy option out, and just use the tools that are already there - then the game will always remind you of mw.

i do not wish to create my own game (well, not yet), and even if i would (the idea becomes more appealing the more i think about it), i would give it quite a while first (learn how to mod first, i think. i mean, why make a game right now while i still have mw and ob to play, right?

btw could you point these out to me please? would it be possible for me to get a hold of them?

Sword of the Perithia is available on MWSummit site as are several blank esm files to create your own total conversion. (I haven't checked whether it is also available here.) Tamriel Rebuilt has it's own website. There is also a mod called Wizard's Island - not sure if it is total conversion or not.
